So, after pre op...... I have a date (fingers crossed!) of admission on 14th June and op on 15th June. It will be open heart to repair my aortic aneurysm and valve sparing. If valve needs replacing then will have a mechanical valve. ... then my life begins again without fear of dissection. Happy Jo!
Excited to move on! : So, after pre op... - British Heart Fou...
Excited to move on!
Hi,
I hope it all goes well. Keep us posted on your experience as I too am on the watch and wait for bav
Take care
Ali
All the very best to you ,I had a mechanical valve fitted in 2005 and haven’t looked back
Wishing you all the best for your operation. Have you been waiting long?
Which part of the Country do you live?
Waiting for Mitral Valve surgery but due to Covid I doubt it will happen this year?
Best wishes again x
I'm in North Wales so going to Liverpool. Been waiting since 2018. Was in watch and wait. Surgeon said they have started up elective surgery again as have beds.
What part of the country are you? I have a friend whose husband is having mitral valve replaced on June Ist, going in on May 29th. Maybe you will not have to wait too long, best wishes.
Hi
I live near Brighton but am still waiting to have CTAngiogram & TOE Echo before surgery. I’ve been told they haven’t resumed doing these tests yet unless super urgent & are still only operating on the vv urgent cases and only one patient in a day.
My blood pressure is causing concern. Anerysem is 5.3cm now
Good luck 🙂
Hope all goes well. I had a triple bypass in Liverpool Heart & Chest in 2018, I heard they were starting elective surgery again.
The staff are lovely whichever ward you are on. I was admitted to one ward the day before the op & then after the op I was taken to the Cardiac ICU & eventually to the recovery & rehabilitation ward until I was discharged.

I am awaiting the exact same operation. I have opted for the resilia aortic valve if mine needs to be replaced. Good luck .... I will also excited to be able to move on as well.
Good luck. I had a mechanical valve too as I felt I was too young for a tissue valve. The warfarin is the only pain, the ticking valve you get used to.
That's what I've heard. My only worry is getting g to blood tests for INR check
Hi Benji_Mum. What a relief for you. Hopefully the rest of the summer will have lovely weather so you can enjoy recovery outside. Keep us posted xxxxx
Best wishes. My husband had a mechanical aortic valve, I actually found the very gentle tick or click very comforting when I put my head on his chest in bed. It served him well, and his death was nothing to do with his heart.
Re the blood test, at first if you need it at home your district nurse will come and take the blood. There are home testing machines, but they are expensive, and you have to check results with someone, until you are well used to changing dose if necessary yourself.
That's great to hear. Thank you. It's a relief xx
Good time of the year to have the op. You will have all the summer to build up your strength and stamia and enjoy the fine weather.
Yes, really pleased its booked. Just shielding now. 3 weeks tomorrow I go in
Hi, Benji_Mum , hope everything went ok? Elective operation is not trivial but definitely better than a dissection!
Yes, 7 weeks post op Monday. Can't believe the time has gone! Still very tired and in pain. But am taking it slowly xx
