The Bisoprolol was reduced from 2x5mg a couple of weeks ago.
Took a lot of trial & error with dif drugs to find the right balance for me, the last 4 months i have finally been feeling well enough, with fewer side effects, I am now happy that I could live with the way I am feeling.
One thing i would ask, which i raised in another post, is why you are not on anything to protect your stomach? I was on Lansoprazole originally, but had a reaction to it so it was stopped, a few months later I was rushed in with suspected HA, turns out it was because i wasn't given a replacement for the Lansoprazole & the Aspirin caused the symptoms.
A&E Dr said I had to be on something to protect my stomach, my GP prescribed Omeprazole and not had that problem since.
However, just so anyone reading is aware, the Omeprazole can cause a deficiency in Folate (Vit B9) as it can effect absorption from foods, I felt absolutely dreadful, no energy etc.
Bloods showed extremely low B9 so was given high dose Folic, within 48hrs I was ready to party!!
Since then and having Bisoprolol reduced, i feel as near to normal as i am likely to get and like i said, finally happy that i can live with what i'm taking.
Might be worth looking at your last bloods to see what Folate was and speaking to Doc to get them re-done, not one that is always included, i think!
As always, we don't all get the same side effects, but thought it was worth mentioning.
After reluctantly trying a couple of statins, both of which caused me major problems with muscle ache, i declined suggestions of trying any more, exercise has always been a big part of my life and i wasn't prepared to risk not being able to.
Spoke to my Cardiologist and he agreed that exercise was (more) important. luckily he is runner himself, also my Cholesterol was fine before my SCA and borderline after, it remains normal(ish).
I take similar medication which includes Folic Acid (B9), since part of the reason I had the blood clot which caused my HA was a high homocysteine level. This is hereditary. You may be prescribed it for the same reason. However, I very rarely hear homocysteine mentioned and my GP does not appear to even understand what it is. I wonder whether it has been mentioned in your case.
As far as statins are concerned, I tried the 3 usual ones with the same effects as you before finding I could cope with a 10mg dose of Rosuvastatin on alternate days. The effect was amazing as my cholesterol fell from 4.1 to 3.1 in three months and was heading lower.
Both determining the homocysteine issue and finding a suitable statin were the result of consultations with a Clinical Pathologist at the local hospital. She was absolutely brilliant. 😀
Thanks, in my case i'm pretty sure it is down to what I said "Omeprazole can cause a deficiency in Folate (Vit B9) as it can effect absorption from foods".
Pre Omeprazole i felt ok, a few weeks after starting Omeprazole i was feeling dreadful.
I will have a read up on homocysteine and see what my Dr says next visit.
That is exactly what they wanted me to try, Rosuvastatin on alt days, or every 3 days, but I declined, wasn't convinced about statins before SCA and after 2 bad experiences with 2 dif statins, I wasn't prepared to chance another set back.
Well I was amazed at Rosuvastatin. The other three statins that I tried all trashed my exercise routine and my sleep pattern. Indeed they were counter-productive. I fully expected Rosuvastatin to be the same, but I had no ill effects and, as I said, the effect on my cholesterol was amazing. The reason it can be taken on alternative days is that it has a relatively long half life so the effect it has spreads over the two days. The main reason they try to get you on a statin when your cholesterol level is within normal range is to minimise risk.
Don't be surprised if your GP dismisses homocysteine out of hand - it is probably not on his / her radar. I am having difficulty getting the GP practice to understand that I need a blood test done to check my level which was only just in range at 11.5 last year. To me, it is far more important than any cholesterol test. For now it is in abeyance pending the easing of the current health crisis. I expect there will be a battle when we get back to a more normal situation.
Aspirin I know is for life. It's been almost 2 years since my HAs and I'm still also still on Bisoprolol, Rosuvastatin (changed from Atorvastatin) and Lansoprozol. I stopped Ticagrelor and Ramipril (thank God! That cough!) after about a year.
All I can offer is it is a Pain In the Butt, they are forever, thing that gets me down (only a little ) is that they are not going to make you better. That's why they are for life.
They are all just trying to prevent something else happening
I am on same except additional felopodine and indapamide no losartan. I am on ticagrelor for 4 years as diagnosed triple vessell disease. After 1yr reduce dose slightly for 3years. They found it difficult to give me particular drugs as some they trialled gave me crippling headaches!
Hi I've only been on Atorvastatin 20 mg since January and was due blood tests after six weeks but I just continued with repeat prescription. No real problems and I would rather keep my cholesterol down than risk a heart attack or stroke. I was put on Edoxaban blood thinner at the same time. Again being at an age where friends are having strokes and heart attacks I'd rather take meds than be at risk. I decided to accept the atorvastatin after reusing for a couple of years when a friend dies of a very sudden heart attack aged 59. He had refused statins because he wouldn't be able to have grapefruit and also because he listened to complaints about tiredness and aches and pains from statins. I haven't noticed that much difference. I have just finished painting 14 sides of doors, two coats each during this lockdown as well as gardening, painting the back of my single storey house and I'm aged 72. Common sense made me finally decide to accept statins and a blood thinner. I have paroxysmal AFib and there was a small infarction on my brain on a CT scan. Keep well and stay safe. Best wishes.
HA and stents end of May 2018 where they also found lung cancer - had to wait till November to have VATS procedure
heart consult has kept me on Asprin - Ticagrelor 60mg - bisoprolol- statins - Omeprazole 20mg - Ramipril and amlodopine after nearly 2 years - because of cancer
had scan on 12th May - lung consult rang me today with good news - no new cancer where they took out and slow growing on right which I dont worry about
Heart is engine of the body and meds are doing their job -
