Prince Philip's Statement

Although he retired from public life three years ago Prince Philip, 98, has made a statement about the pandemic:

As we approach world immunisation week, I wanted to recognise the vital and urgent work being done by so many to tackle the pandemic; by those in the medical and scientific professions, at universities and research institutions, all united in working to protect us from Covid-19.

On behalf of those of us who remain safe and at home, I also wanted to thank all key workers who ensure the infrastructure of our life continues; the staff and volunteers working on food production and distribution, those keeping postal and delivery services going, and those ensuring the rubbish continues to be collected.

Great to hear from him, especially noting the key workers - the people he cites are keeping us going as we make the slog through the 'lockdown'.

Yes there are lots more people who carry on for the rest of us. Sometimes wished I'd be a post man or worked in a supermarket. Supermarket, ha soon would lay the law down, Aldi Ripon is worse... still have to put a pound in trolleys, that's a pain... and half people not social distancing in there either. Anyway gonna have a chill pill 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😉😉

Same in Aldi Harrogate. I stopped going before lockdown because noone was social distancing, narrow aisles so can't avoid people. I wear masks(left over from swine flu, bird blu) & disposable gloves when I go to bank, Sainsburys Local, Tesco Metro but no longer go in bigger supermarkets. Luckily I had my daughter bring me shopping, then got a delivery slot from Tesco last week. Hope you can get shopping delivered. Some local farms, greengrocers & butchers are delivering too.

Best of luck to you all.

Thanks for confirming that with Aldi. Just cant believe even the staff is partly ignorant about that. Annoying that. I like Aldi but only go there when quiet. Best is dead early, like 8 am or 7 pm. Went Morrisons this morning and it was good, 😁 no queuing outside.....easy peasy todays shopping trip.... even Home Bargains and our BP- SPAR no problems today!

Always busier in Harrogate than Ripon. My neighbour told me last Friday at 8am for "pensioners hour" there was a 45 minute queue all round Waitrose carpark! Similar the Friday before. You're lucky Home Bargains is open, the Pound shop here is closed.

Well it sells food as well, that's why. Depending where you live, you have to be whitty and think when best to go shopping. First come first served....or go to smaller shops, even if it's a penny or 10 pence dearer to save the argro. I think how I can make my food last, like making home made stews and bolognese or meatballs with Turkey mince or coleslaws and salads etc. Stopped buying sauces to make bolognese or curries. If you got spices and herbs, recipe books, make your own, saves money too 😁👌

Guess what Nathan53 is in our Community and Health Walk. Check it out!!!! He seems to be genuine and has heart problems, 27 people are following him! 😁👌He had problems with his phone.

But would advise him to be careful how he is posting comments or anything else, because anything offensive will be deleted by admin!!!

I have always respected what he has to say. He is far better than the tabloids would have us believe. Three cheers for him and the Queen!

Good that he kept well away from slitty-eyed references (to the origin of the virus) this time around :-)

In fact the only royal to my knowledge that has cats is my namesake Princess Michael (of Kent). 🐅

I don't think it was from him as longer name I believe. Pretty irrelevant now...
