Hi, I just had a telephone consultation with my cardiologist. I have now been prescribed ranolozine. Is anyone else taking this medication ? I was unsure if it was in addition to calcium channel blockers or in addition to.
Ranolazine: Hi, I just had a telephone... - British Heart Fou...
Ranolazine
ive been put on this drug 3 times by different consultants,i find it makes me very depressed as well as blocking alot of pain everywhere, not directed totally on my heart but on my whole body,i feel like a walking zombie with it,so came off it
Hi, I’ve been on it for 2 years for micro vascular angina. Certainly helped me. Pain free now.
I was on ranolozine for 12 months, it greatly improved my heart function, I had angina and 3 blocked arteries and I did feel much better. I asked my cardiac nurse what it was and I was told it worked like warfarin, and improved how the heart was working, it certainly improved my heart issues. I have since had a triple bypass so ranolozine is no longer needed, but I found it very helpful. Good luck with it and I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.
Thank you, keep safe.
Ranolazine is very much of a marmite drug. Some people do very well on it and others have a very difficult time. I ended up as an emergency case at my GPs because it made me feel so unwell. On the manufacturer's website patients either give it 5 stars or 1 star. Hope it works out for you.
On 750mg of Ranolozine and it really helps. It’s odd that I don’t seem to get any side effects from it, yet I’m extremely sensitive to most drugs (even paracetamol is like a sleeping pill!)
MVA, following MI and stents.
Thanks for your reply, take care.
Yes I have been taking we’re not seen in forYes I have been taking banalising for some time for angina I’m also taking nicorandil as well took a long time to work but I’m seeing benefit now
The 2 drugs calcium channel blockers and ranolazine together can cause some issues ,it have me heart block but maybe it depends on dose.
I have been on ranolazine 375mg twice a day for 16 months now, and it has greatly controlled my microvascular angina. I have not noticed any particular issues but am quite a few medications so wouldn’t necessarily put a particular symptom down to any one medication.
Hi Brangwyn
Have you been diagnosed with microvascular angina ?
If so how?
Some types of MVA are due to an inability of your blood vessels to dilate Microvascular dysfunction
Or due to vasospasms in the small vessels.
Ranolazine appears to be effective in microvascular dysfunction rather than vasomotion disorders
The research seems to show that it is only effective in 50% of patients with MVA
Perhaps keep a diary of your symptoms before you start and see if they work for you.
I hope they do.
Hi, I have been diagnosed with distal disease which is also known as small vessel disease and MVA as I understand it . This diagnosis followed a CT angiogram and finally an echocardiogram. I think it wise to keep a record of symptons whilst taking ranolozine. The cardiologist would have upped my dose of calcium channel blockers but my blood pressure is on the low side of normal so suggested ranolozine.
