Prednisone

I was put on Prednisone for gout - brought about by my diuretics. It worked well but now I find that my body has developed a reliance on this drug and when I try to come off it I get issues with weight gain, breathlessness and flu like symptoms.

I have got it down from 40mg daily to 20mg daily but anything lower than that makes me ill.

Anyone else had this?

Hi

If you lower dose you should lose weight not gain it

Prednisolone can also cause breathlessness

You may just be getting withdrawal symptoms which can last a few days

You really need to speak to you GP

Not had this issue myself but many with pericarditis seem to face something similar. The Facebook groups on pericarditis and pericarditis Uk have folks who are weaning / have weaned off this, seems it can take a whole.

They also talk about anti inflammatory meds like kinaret (I’ve not taken) and colchicine (which I’m on for 6m for pericarditis). I believe colchicine is also a gout anti inflammatory so wondering what your doc might say about that option?
