Going out for daily walk

Hi.

So, I’ve been doing a 5k brisk walk a couple of time’s a week as part of my rehab.

Is it still acceptable to do this around quiet residential streets? All our parks and green spaces are now closed. Also, is it ok for my daughter to come with me? - she is 16. If she were to come with me (she doesn’t want me going out on my own!), does she have to be 2mtrs away from me?

Sorry if this seems trivial at this very confusing and scary time we are living through and thank you for any advice in advance x

Hi Imin

Yes, that's sounds fine if you keep 2 metres apart.

Please have a look at the NHS advice on this - the section headed Looking after your mental wellbeing

Thanks for that. I didn’t want to be part of the problem that I have been criticising! 😉

Is she 2 metres away when you’re at home? If not, I don’t think she needs to be when you’re out.

This is the point she’s been making!! We sit at either end of the sofa but that still makes her only a metre away!

Hi

My Son lives with me and we share bathroom

at present we thought it would be hard for one of us to be isolated in thier bedroom .

So we ensure we stay 2 meters away when in the lounge watching TV .

Each of us clean bathroom after using it and only one at a time in the kitchen.

We go out walking together but make sure I walk 2 meters away from him.

Apart from that we keep surfaces as clean as we can ,wipe handles on doors and things that are touched often .

We have a plan in place if one of us has any symptoms .

It going to be hard to manage this any other way as restrictions could be in place for 3 months or more .

We make sure we have a laugh and agree that if one or other finds it to much instead of arguing that one will retire to thier bedroom for a while .

Take Care

I think that if you are in the same room as someone for hours, the two-metre distance would not make much difference.

Yes we are aware of that but the only other choice is for one of us to stay in thier bedroom and to do that for 3 to 4 months or more would be almost impossible .

It was about keeping us both sane its the best we can do I know thier are lots of people in the same situation .

Best Wishes

I’m applying the 2m rule for anyone who doesn’t live in my house. My worry is what they did prior to Sunday. I sleep in same bed as partner - so that’s pair of us tied to each other’s fates. Daughter doesn’t like hugs at best of times. But impossible to stay 2 metres.

As I type, the answer is yes, you can go for a walk. Just maintain social distance of 2 metres. As for your daughter, I suggest you are at no more risk outside the house than you are within it. You might get a few odd looks if you don't social distance, but then, having seen some of the scenes reported on the news, possibly not!

My daughter has 2 boys, age 9+4. Sorry I think you have misinterpreted the news. Your immediate family living with you under the same roof is okay as long as you don't mix with family living further away from you. Just wash your hands regularly, keep body, hair and clothing clean and house.

The advice is, people you don't know when out food shopping to keep your 2metre distance. Same for walk, running or biking with your family. Use common sense, act responsibly and stay safe as a family unit and as individuals.

Hope that answered your question ☺️💜

Thank you everyone. What a scary time we are living. My children are a little anxious so I’m trying to do as much as I can to help them. Fresh air and exercising will help them...and me! even if they don’t know it 😉 Take care and stay safe everyone x
