Swapping from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol 1.25

Will try Nebivolol as Biso giving me too many side effects as outlined in previous posts. I've been on Biso 1.25 and have Nebiv 2.5 which I will cut in half. But I've noticed that a few folks have said they swap from the 1.25 Biso to 2.5Nebiv . Is this because nebivolol is weaker? I'll take the half dose just in case of reactions. Can't keep on with Biso, QOL not good. Many thanks for all previous replies and look forward to some anecdotal experiences. Hopefully the structure of the new BB won't be so different that I'll have weird episodes. I have a highly reactive system.

I hope that you are making this change under medical advisement! If so did they not tell you what dosage you should take of Nebivolol?

I spoke to my cardiologist and GP about this. GP glad to get me off the phone and said she had prescribed 1.25 nebivolol. When picked up from chemist it was 14, tablets in the box @ 2.5. strength. My cardio said if intolerance re Biso Just cut down taking half or alternate half one day whole one next day...very relaxed about it really. Wouldn't dream of adjusting meds without consulting with GP/cardio first.

Glad to hear it 😀

Then I would defo start with the 1.25mg, as you said better in case you react again.

Fingers crossed these work for you.

Hubby switched from Bisoprolol to Nebivolol 1.25mg due to side effects. Only nuisance is cutting 2.5mg tablet in half even with proper device. We thought that the lower dose tablets too expensive for the NHS.

Did he feel better on the nebivolol? I know what you mean about cutting as even with the pill cutter it wasn't exactly proportioned ...as it's got a score down the middle it looked more even snapping with fingers.

Yes, he feels so much better having changed drugs, I fill up a months pill boxes at a time so breaking by hand would be a pain. Hope you are feeling the benefit of the switch.

Unlikely to do with cost, more that they don't make a 1.25mg.

My cardio said they do a 1.25 but it's more expensive.

Follow, as I’m also having problems with Bisoprolol on 1.25, low HR at night ad even sitting. Head n neck discomfort, areas I’ve had trouble with in the past feeling sore 🙄

Dear celticlady

I think that you are on the right track, no one knows there bodies better than us but unfortunately we all have to follow the “ one size fits all “ approach at the start.

And what a start it is ! Things will balance for you and with the help of your Dr and team you should be able to “ tune and tweak” your medication to suite your body best.

Take care and fight your corner, you will come through this, it a time thing and it will soon pass.

I had severe dizziness on Bisoprolol and pins and needles so my GP told me to cut it down to 1.25mg then when I was still suffering side effects he swapped me to Nebivolol 2.5mg. I’m absolutely fine on them. I do have swollen ankles in the evening but unsure if that’s from the Nebivolol or because of the heart issues themselves.

Thank you. It's interesting that the nebivolol dose is higher , did you notice any transitional fluctuations? It's my first day on nebivolol-took one 1.25 yesterday felt a bit restless last night, I read that nebivolol doesn't interfere with melatonin so should be better sleeping.

No to be honest, it was almost an instant settling of the dizziness. I have Long Covid so lots of different symptoms so I still get dizzy when I am very fatigued (I have ME/CFS triggered by Covid as part of the Long Covid). I still get pins and needles but more of a nuisance than a constant they was on the bisoprolol. I’ve also gone from having insomnia most nights to mostly sleeping well even if I wake up still exhausted it’s not due to lack of sleep now.

I was swapped from 10mg of Bisporolol to 5mg of Nebivolol, now down to 2.5mg. I find it easier to snap the tablets in half rather than use the cutter. The ones I have trouble cutting are spironolactone!! Hidders - my ankles also swell a bit in the evening,I try to put my feet up to lessen it. I dont think its the drugs, its probably circulation issues with HF.

Know what you mean... easier to snap than use the cutter, I think it's the shape of the tablet, cutters work better on round tablets.

I was much better on nebivolol than on bisopropol. It isn't weaker it just works in a different way. When l was in hospital they only had 5mg and my surgery only had 2.5 mg. I just broke them with my fingers which l found quite easy as they are scored so you can do that. I was taking 1.25mg and was fine on that. I hope you are too.

Thank you. Feel a bit 'spacey' today so readjusting to them. Hope it's not going to take ages for these to settle in. Was reading reviews for nebivolol on a USA forum , all negative but some people had only been on them 7/14 days. Maybe the worst is over as been on bisoprolol a month so body will have acclimatised to lower BP and HR. Supposed to be better for sleep as nebivolol don't deplete melatonin. Got ultrasound next Thursday then holter monitor , dreading coming off them to Allow vfor accurate readings of palps! Would help if I knew what was wrong with me. GP mentioned thyroid , shame that wasn't ruled out b4 going on BBs .

I have only read positive messages about nebivolol on this site compared to bisopropol which few people get on with. I had terrible side effects with bisopropol, none with nebivolol. Maybe you still have some bisopropol in your system. I wasn't told to stop any drugs when l have had an echocardiogram.

I'd be interested to know how you get on. I was prescribed 1.25mg of Bisoprolol and could not tolerate the side effects. I thought my GP would suggest an alternative, but she told me to stop taking them and use on a PRN basis ie only if I got palpitations. My palpitations are very infrequent ,so I haven't had cause to try that out yet.

Will update . My palps/s o.b /light headed Ness were coming too regularly to do PIP. Not sure if thyroid might be involved, hope my ultrasound next week goes ok. If it's electric s things can be difficult to sort. Might need a totally different med. Hope you didn't have withdrawal symptoms stopping bisoprolol.
