Asthma....??

Hi everyone this is my first post, I have replied to a couple of folk here but not introduced myself proper .. About Easter of last year I started with this viral infection which really knocked the stuffing out of me .No symtoms as such just constant tiredness no energy and not much appetite. One of my GPs in particular was trying to get to the bottom of it and after various tests it was discovered in about Sept that the infection was in my lungs. I was prescribed a strong course of anti biotics and thought right, that's it. Then I developed asthma like symtoms. I was a regular walker with my dog and we would trawl the hills in the local area regularly but that was becoming more difficult. one afternoon Id just returned home I was so breathless I couldn't put 2 words together. All this this time the inlhalers id been prescribed had not worked and I was waiting to hear something from the respiratory team at my local hospital. So off I went there and it was found I had a mild heart attack-my GPs had failed to look back at my medical history;I was born with a hole in the heart and this had always been a watchpoint with certain things and any invasive surgical proceedings etc. The virus they said had probably damaged the valves; I now await surgery for quite a leaky aortic valve and repair/replacement of a mitral valve. While hes in there, the surgeon said he will patch up the hole. I now have to wait till approx. May before it will commence. Im not scared as long as I don't think about it too much, I just want it done and dusted and get my life back but the waiting is awful. I cant work or do a lot of the things I used to do and that's probably the worst thing for all of us. Ive been through the screaming and crying stage I think that's gone now but I find myself with the waterworks a few times a week. Guess I just feel cheated Ive lived with this condition all of my life neither drank nor smoked [OK im a sucker for a decent bit of cake] now find myself as I approach retirement with this.

welcome magicmog. sorry to hear your having such a bad time. the good thing is they’ve got to the bottom it atvladt and your gonna get it fixed. i feel your pain with the not smoking and drinking thinking we’re keeping ourselves healthy. i especially get the wee cake part.my excuse for my daily dose of cake was “my recipe for contentment was doing a good deed for someone and a cake for me”. great logic. so i thought until HA. 2years ago. as most of my friends on here know i’m quite partial to a wee fruit tart nowadays. just not every day🤣hope your op goes well and you get back to your old self and enjoy your wee cake treat❤️shiona

hi there i have a heart roblem my self ,and get so out of breath taking my dog for her walk in the tha hills of wales,i dont drink never have gave up smoking about thirty five years ago.but my doc and the hospital dont seem to want to know so i can only putit down to ashma or heart probem

Get a heart scan I was like this now they have found a problem

Welcome to the forum and the club you really hoped to never join. Your post expresses so well what it's like for so many, thank-you! I have multiple 'mild' heart conditions beginning with Rheumatic Heart Syndrome (from having rheumatic fever as a child) and one of the consequences is a scarred aortic valve that will one day want replacing. I generally try not to think about it beyond being alert to signs it's worsening but there are times I have to go out to the garden and kick a tree stump - reading your post I was nodding my head and saying 'Yup, yup.'

May seems a long ways off and the wait is going to wear on you. Many of us have endured long waits and the best help is keeping busy with something that isn't physically demanding, and staying active here on the forum. I look forward to reading your contributions as you go through the wait for your repair-replacements op.

Hello Magicmog12, as others have already said the waiting is awful, but it will pass and you will have a mended heart. I had AVR and bypass done and like you was very breathless, now mended heart and in a good place. Focus on after your op, and everything fixed. Life will be good again.
