I thought it would be interesting to see what people had for supper. If you got JustEat to deliver a KFC or a McD just confess and move on as the food police will not be coming around!
Tonight I made chicken paella with brown rice, cherry tomatoes, courgette and shallots. I did, however, buy the chicken stock and drink a glass of the white wine.
What did you eat?
I have been asked what time (?) a few times and would suggest your main meal between 17:00 and 21:00. If you only have a lite bite and eat your meal at lunchtime use that. It is not a rigorous peer reviewed piece of research just something to get a flavour (bad pun not intentional) what people here are eating.

Home made lebonese lamb soup, with crusty seedy bread & 1/2 glass of wine. Now having written that I've just remembered I've given up alcohol for lent.....its not going well!!
Sundays are 'free days' for the faithful nowadays. I don't remember that from my Catholic school days (or my children's) so it must be a recent development.

My husband went out, his brother-in-law died today and most of the healthy food was in our outside freezer. I can’t get there because the door is too stiff!
Mmm some of these are making me hungry 😋. Tonight I had vegetable big soup. Canned. And five whole-wheat crackers. Just me and couldn’t find the energy to cook. But it was still delicious. Coconut yogurt for desert 👍🏻❤️
Chicken cooked in the terracotta brick (no oil just water), potatoes, broccoli,carrots, peas, sprouts, cauliflower and salt reduced gravy, followed by fresh mango and soy ice cream.
Chicken legs cooked in my new low fat frier. No added fat. Xs drains off,sweet potato mash, sprouts, asparagus. Found carrots uncooked in microwave when washing up!!
Sunday Roast. Chicken, broccoli, carrots,, cabbage, roast potatoes and the best bit...gravy! No Yorkshire’s though as I couldn’t be bothered! 😕 They were missed!!
Home made beef curry stew, no salt and cuppa, very boring.
We are out! Hubby had a mixed grill that was such a plateful that he didn’t touch his chips or the gammon ( the dog got the gammon) so it was quite healthy! I had a sirloin chasseur and we were both too full for a sweet!!
Home made steak pie with mashed swede and steamed curly kale. Followed up an hour later by Devon toffee ice cream because we needed to make a space in the freezer
Back to the original subject matter - carrot and parsnip soup (home made from allotment stuff I found in the freezer) and some sourdough bread I made. The latter was pretty dire but edible!

As we had my son and his girlfriend down for the weekend we had roast chicken with all the usual suspects.As I no longer eat meat it was salmon for me.We topped that off with fresh fruit salad and they had dairy ice cream with that.
Well to be honest we were celebrating the Mother in laws 80th so I did sin and have some Turkey at a Carvery along with heaps of Veg, but if there had been Salmon on offer I would have gone for that. I Gave up meat after my "episode" but to be honest I feel very strongly that people are going to have to get used to eating far less of it, particularly Beef, for environmental reasons. We tend to eat a lot of Indian based veg food but I do eat fish particularly oily varieties. Probably would have been something like roast Celeriac on a Bed of Dhal with a lime yogurt. Some of the ready meals and canned things like the soup mentioned can contain unbelievable amounts of salt and other rubbish, M&S ready meals are terrible for it.
I know what you mean about canned food.We make our own soup now...very tasty and I'm mostly eating plant based with some oily fish and low fat dairy.I used to love adding salt I'm afraid so now we make good use of the spice rack.I've lost nearly five stone in just under a year too so back to my proper weight.I certainly get around faster and my bp is holding as well so all good.As a lifelong campaigner for the environment I like to feel I'm doing my bit there as well.
I'm guilty of that - or was until I was put on a sodium/salt restricted diet back in the early '00s. I'll never forget the first time I went to the supermarket after being told my new restriction. Everything I wanted to put in my trolley was so loaded with sodium/salt I ended up going out to the car park and having a good cry in the car. I was sure I was going to starve to death.
And then I went back in the supermarket for all fresh. I cook everything from scratch now, no more tinned or processed foods for me and mine! The only thing is watching out for high content naturally occurring sodium, I used to love celery but WOW is there a high content in one small stalk!
I try to eat light in the evenings so only had a ham salad with two wafer thin slices of ham. Had vegetables stir fried with rice for lunch. I’m trying unsuccessfully to lose weight.
Roast chicken, a mixture of vegetables (boiled and roasted), roast potatoes and gravy. Simple pudding of a small amount of vanilla ice cream and a spoon of homemade lemon curd.
It is many months since we have ordered in food, preferring to prepare and cook our own so we know what goes into it. The fast food industry will certainly not get rich on us! 😁
Pasta and meatballs with tomato sauce and garlic bread. Home made sauce but everything else bought in..plus a glass of red whilst cooking. It was just the one glass too.
I don't eat late, usually about 3.30-4pm. Rarely have takeaway as there's only me here but sometimes go through Just Eat for local Indian if someone is visiting. Yesterday was odds and sods as I'll be away in a coupe of days, so raided the fridge. Had meatballs cooked in the oven with onion, mushrooms and jalapenos with tin of chopped tomatoes mixed in, cheese on top. Will have the rest today.
I would say the main evening meal that people eat anytime between 5:00pm and 9:00pm. Some people I know eat early to leave the evening free but snack around 9:00. I think having the main meal about 7:00 would be more sensible.
Had chicken without skin chestnut mushrooms broccoli corn on the cob all free range or organic for tea smoked salmon. Cuecumer on rye bread no butter fruit cocktail with ativa no fat yorgut I had my cholestral done last week with full bloods it was 3.2 my hbca1 for diabetes was 36 don’t no if it’s goid or bad
No I don’t have it at all lol and I don’t want it small scare two years ago with NSTEMI it was a plaque event whatever that is only had a 40 % block but cuz I wirk at the hospital they stented me I lost 10 stone 5 years ago don’t smoke drunk live a very healthy lifestyle and boom to be honest I never even new I had attack only the pain in jaw tang dr he called amber lance the rest history
Those figures are excellent. Well done. I am Type 2. On 4 Feb my HaBC1 was 56. I’m working on getting it below 42 by May. If you are maintaining under 42 by lifestyle and without meds (or even with meds) you are doing really well. I’ll have to ask you for your recipes.
3.2 is also excellent. I understand that LDL and HDL/ cholesterol ratio are also key figures.
Mate I seen two friends loose limbs over this I never ever want to get it so I go organic as much as I can but and a big but us I do have grilled bacon without fat with poached eggs done in water very low fat low carbs high protein drink lots of Lemon water but lots of tea becoming divectic scares the life out of me but dr assured me I’m so low risk she did a non fasting test 5.1 again have no idea in numbers only problem if it’s a problem good cholestral to high bad cholestral to low she said I needs bit more fat I do eat loads of fresh salmon wild Alaskan is best lots of veg and eat fruit but fruit as fructose so I aim at 3 veg to too fruited I eat between 8 to 10 fruit veg every day no bread ever
Thanks. That’s great. Whatever you’re doing it works so well done. Like you, I have sen the effect that diabetes has had on my dad and so eventually (and thanks to a CHD diagnosis) kicked into action because I don’t want to be like like, bless him.
I’m on a strict diet and for the last four weeks my FBG has been in the 5’s (this morning 5.3). 5.3 mol/l equates to HaBC1 of 31 mol/mol. HaBC1 of 42 (the level below which you are “normal”) is 6.9. Home testing is obviously only a guide as it is a snapshot whereas the HaBC1 is an average of the past two or three months but, still, it can give you a good indication. Using it after meals can also help to tell you which food your body can and can’t tolerate in terms of blood sugar.
Hence my interest in finding a life long diet that is both heart friendly and control blood sugar. I’ve also lost 38 lbs since I started which helps.
I am quite happy to be fruit and veg based but love eggs (we keep chickens) and oily fish - mackerel, sardines, herrings etc so they will definitely be in.
In both our cases, I guess it shows what true motivation can do for you. Congratulations on your efforts, glad its paying off for you.
Thanks mate to be honest I have had two poached eggs with my breakfast everyday for years two drs done a server they were twins one had no eggs the other ate 6 a day for a month both the same as the start and finish I do have a roast lamb or beef full on so I guess my body deals with it I’m not going to be controlled. Rather I control it if I want the odd cake say once a month I have it u no what I mean glad to help and share with u mate always here for anyone who want support
We eat at lunchtime when I had veggie sausage (one) cauli, sprouts casrrots and a slice of wholemeal bread. At 6.30 p.m. I had a banana sandwich - with a scraping of honey - BAD!) Spoilt the whole thing by having a piece of bread with home made plum jam at 9 p.m. oh dear!
Bread doesn't have to be bad we get ours from a local bakery that only produces sourdough bread, the yeast is organically sourced and there are no additives in it, it is fantastic. The trouble is that bread gets a bad name because there is so much cheap and nasty stuff (pappy as I call it) on the market.
Well-not much yesterday but I’m of the way of thinking that if you eat what you fancy one time per week as long as it’s absolutely not loaded with salt or heavily processed food such as donna kebab or hotdog this isn’t going to affect your overall health at all. A poor diet to 3 times a week will do that . Seems most people here are sensible-nice to know!

13.18 Just sitting here with a cuppa before going to fit a new door on the bedroom. Blow supper Saturday lunch time 12.30 ish a peanut butter and banana sandwich followed by a pair and cake, then Sunday morning ( without the wife) I go for a walk round the park with the grandchildren and daughters and stop at a cafe or garden centre for a latte ( in a glass) and a scone and jam. Heaven
I ate fresh Salmon with sweet potato mash and cauliflower. Followed by blueberries, fat free Greek yogurt and green tea. Later in the evening, a few pecan nuts, walnuts and pumpkin seeds.
We had steak (discounted at Waitrose fresh meat counter), spinach, mushrooms, grilled tomato and new potatoes. Also a lapsed Catholic but still stick to fish on Friday! 11 years of boarding school means I cannot stand the smell of deep fried battered fish, let alone eat it!
O.K. Sunday lunch. Beef casserole cooked with carrots & celery, accompanied by mashed potatoes, broccoli, peas and carrots. For afters, trifle or jelly with cream or ice cream or strawberries and a chocolate cake to finish. Just been out for a six mile walk to try and burn some of it off. In the sunshine. All good stuff.
As this was yesterday Michael I had pork stir fry with noodles. Then apple crumble with low fat ice cream. I also made peanut butter cookies so had a few of them, naughty I know but I have good and bad days. How are you feeling Michael?
I am not to bad but still feel lacking energy following my hospitalisation a month ago. February's weather did not help. Cold, wet and windy with storms A - Z!
