Apixaban, tremors, weak

Hi everyone.

I'm new on here so apologies if someone has already posted about this.

I had a superficial vein thrombosis 4 weeks ago and my GP put me on Apixaban (Eliquis) for 3 months. I'm now taking 5mg twice a day and hadn't noticed any major side effects until 5 days ago.

I'm now getting bad palpitations, then my whole body shakes for a few seconds repeatedly during the day, like a bad tremor I suppose.

In addition to this I am weak, zero energy and just want to sleep all the time.

Before taking these tablets I had none of the above symptoms.

Do you think it's related to the tablets and that i am having a bad reaction to them?

I think a return visit to my doctor is on order...

Thank you and best wishes to you all.

Hello and welcome to the forum! You need to make a GP appointment but in the interim have a chat with your pharmacist.

Thank you so much. Just been to my Doctor again and he's ordered blood tests on Monday, think it may be thyroid issues so ruling that out before thinking of changing meds.

That sounds like a good plan

I know a couple of other people on these tablets with no problems although that’s no guarantee

Thank care

That's really kind of you to send your best wishes. Thank you.

Certainly sound like a reaction to the meds. Get yourself a walk in appointment quick smart.

I've been told that superficial phlebitis doesn't require treatment with anticoagulants and that anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen or naproxen are recommended. Since you're experiencing symptoms that may or may not be caused by the apixaban, perhaps your GP will ask you to be evaluated by a vascular surgeon for accurate diagnosis and possible withdrawal of the apixaban.

Not what you're looking for?
