Hi everyone

I have a question. Are you feeling light head and out of breath when you walk uphill? I am on bisoprolol fumarate.

Thank you

Yes! I also take Bisoprolol. However, I had started getting breathless walking uphill long BEFORE bisoprolol but the latter has made it worse - now even happening especially if I try and walk fast just on the flat. You don’t say what dose you’re taking but perhaps you could ask if you could reduce it. I am hoping to reduce from 5mg daily to 2.5mg daily.’

Thanks for reply. I take 2.5mg . Do you think this is my heart problem?

I’m sorry it’s only a Dr who will know what your heart problem is, why you are prescribed bisoprolol and thus able to answer that question.

I had very sharp pain on my chest, left hand and my jawline and I was fainting alot. Also my heart beat was slow and missing the beats. My doctor confused me first he was said it is not your heart and then after lots of test , he said it is your heart and I have to take bisoprolol for the rest of my life. But despite of taking my tablet daily I feel pain and taierd most of the times.

Do you have nitrate spray for Angina coz sounds like that. I take Bisoprolol along with other meds and you get used to not being as quick. I get slightly breathlessness and get Angina but rest and it goes away. I'm 53 and have had 2 heart attacks

If it was me and my doctor was so non-specific and leaving me in continuous discomfort, I would be seeking a second opinion. It is a cardiologist you are talking about, I assume?

Have you had a full range of tests such as ECG echocardiogram angiogram et cetera. There is no way your doctor could be sure exactly what’s wrong with you without any of these tests.....

If it is angina, then walking a few minutes on the flat first, before tackling a slope, gets your heart rate a bit faster, and helps me a lot with the angina,

The short answer is yes(now for the long bit) and I know exactly the first day it happened (Feb 14th 2018), I have been on bisoprolol for just over 7 years (5years at the time), I was out walking my dogs, and for the first time I had to stop, walking up a hill I had walked up almost every day for the past 4 years! I was light headed, breathing heavy and had an odd sensation in my legs ( hard to describe, they felt heavy but Sharkey) .

This continued for about a minute. After a few weeks, initially I thought I'd caught a virus that was making me feel bad, I went to the Drs had blood tests, lung function test, ect..., I had the bisoprolol discussion, and how likely it was that I could have built up an intolerance, it was decided that it was unlikely to be my meds, but not totally discounted, I eventually got referred to my local hospital cardiology department, and the consultant I saw suggested as it only happened during exercise, that an exercise stress test would be a good idea ( you have no idea how long it took to get to this appointment!), So to the exercise test, within a minute of being hooked up and walking on the treadmill, the nurse stopped my test, said she didn't need to see any more, she went straight to the cardiology department, tried to speak to a consultant but, no one was available, so she left them a message, I got a phone call the same day telling me I needed a pacemaker as I had left bundle branch block, after that call it all moved very quickly, can't say that since having the pacemaker fitted all my problems have disappeared because they haven't, I still struggle to walk up hill at any speed, ( I've got an appointment in march with the pacing clinic, so I'm hoping they can adjust it ), but I don't get the odd feeling in my legs or the lightheadedness.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not always the meds, I'd go to the Drs get some tests done, suggest an exercise test, push if you have to.

Good luck with getting some answers.

I'm on Bisoprolol Fumarate and yes after taking it in the morning I come over very tired, light headed and out of breath going up stairs. Here is the list of heart meds I take: Amlodipine Besilate, Apixaban, Bisoprolol Fumarate, Isosorbide Mononitrate & Simvastatin. I'm now waiting on an appointment for an Angiogram. Are you on other heart medication too?

Hi saw your reply. I had a stent in my LDA in December. Everything went well. Just recently had some lightheadedness. I take Atenolol, Atorvastatin., Lansoprazole, Clopidogrel, Aspirin. I’ve tried to find out why the lightheadedness has started, it’s so irritating, also get tired in the evening.

Unfortunately I couldn’t take Amlodipine & Isosorbide Mononitrate with the meds I take.

Be interested in your outcome. x

You take a lot of meds too. I was told my blood pressure drops when I stand up so that could be something to do with me feeling lightheaded at times. Wonder what they'll see when the do the angiogram hope nothing unusual. Time will tell.

This is what I assumed it could be BP, however I do take my BP often during the day. It doesn’t seem to make any difference. I had an angiogram before I had my stent so I know everything there is ok.

Good luck x

I don't know if I'll need a stent hope not. I was diagnosed with Coronary Heart Disease, Atrial Fibrillation, leaking Mytral valve. I had a mini stroke over a year ago. That's when I was put on all the heart meds. I hope you feel a bit better soon. Best wishes.
