Hi, hot weather is a nightmare, but good news, this being the UK it will be snowing by tomorrow. There was a post a few days ago with lots of information bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...
I was bathed in sweat all day, my hair was soaking wet, I have Svt. It was uncomfortable all day and I was glad it was over. Even my fan wasn,t much good.
I also struggle in hot weather and get very tired, feel generally unwell and am soaked in sweat. I invested in a Dyson fan which is great and on the worst days I spend all of my time lying down with it on almost maximum.
I also soak a towel in cold water, squeeze it out and drape it around the back of my neck. I got that idea from watching pro tennis players competing in hot countries. Tepid showers in the evening before bed also help me.
Hope you r ok no you’re not daft asking some people handle heat in different ways my sister sweats a lot but I don’t sweat but feel I could faint and I usually tolerate the heat but this week the heat is unbearable and humid try using a fan if you have other symptoms or you feel something isn’t right ph ur gp to mk sure take care
I don't think you are alone Dauris. It's not so much the heat but the high humidity on top which makes you sweat so much. I also feel it sucks the oxygen out of the air.
Try filling your hot water bottle, not to the top, with cold water, leave the top off put it in the freezer with the neck propped up, the water will expand as it freezes. When done put the top back on and stick it wherever you need the most!!
Use the tips at the link Smarticus posted - very helpful stuff there.
Also helpful are the comments here about fans and towels soaked in cold water. No-one has mentioned this but very nice is a bag of ice cubes wrapped in a dry towel and placed on your wrists or 'crook of elbow' - wow does that cool off an overheated body in a very quick moment, the resulting 'chill' is delicious!
But also, give your GP or cardiac nurse a call to make sure your heavy sweating and bright red face isn't a signal something else is going on - it is almost certainly just the horrific heat but better safe than sorry.
Heat and humidity can play havoc with us hearties and diabetics.
I've found filling little plastic bottles with water and sticking them in the freezer really makes for great ice packs. As Sunnie2day says, crook of elbow, wrist or even back of neck really cools you down. The added bonus is you have nice ice cool water to drink when they defrost!!
Our ancient Wilko fan is struggling to work now. Sounds like a Boeing 747 with cough!! Could invest in one online but we'll probably have another ice age next week!!
Good luck to you. If you have any concerns please speak with your GP xxxx
Just a thought, have you cleaned the blades of the fan lately, not becuase it needs to look lovely but becuase the dust on the leading edge makes the blades drag and noisy. There is usually a way to open the cage and get at the blades.
Great thought and just did it!! Still noisy but not half as bad! Now looking for WD40 to give the fan a new lease of life (it's 19 years old tomorrow so may throw it a birthday bash!!!).
