The BBC2 series Hospital returns tonight for Series 5, which like Series 4 focuses on the hospitals in the Liverpool area.
In the second instalment on 20/02/2020 and for the whole of the third instalment on 27/02/2020 the focus will be on the incredible Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital who saved my life and the lives of many others with their amazing skills. I'm sure that I won;t be the only ex-patient who will be glued to their tv marvelling at the dedication and skills of all the staff in the NHS

I will be watching it with great interest Russell, as it saved my life as well. I’ll have to record the episode on 27th as we will be in Lanzarote then.
A word of gratitude as well to our local hospital Arrowe Park on the Wirral, when I suffered a severe electrolyte imbalance a couple of weeks after discharge from Liverpool they managed to keep me alive as well.
They saved my father's life! He had a burst aneurysm in the artery leading to his kidney. He called an ambulance and after emergency surgery he survived after he had practically bled out. I love that area. I was born in Chester and lived on the Wirral. X
Hi Lilypocket, I’m glad Arrowe Park saved your dads life. It’doesn’t always get good publicity at times though it’s been in the news a lot recently with all those in quarantine after coming back from China. We like the Wirral as you do, we aren’t native though but came to be near one of our daughters who lives in Greasby. I like being near the coast for walking as we hearties have to walk a lot.
Yes the staff in Arrowe Park are excellent, sadly the building is in need of an up[date, I've been to quite a few outpatient appointments there over the last year. At one in October on a bitterly cold day, I went in to see the consultant and she was sitting there in an overcoat and apologised for the fact the heating was broken - been like that for 3 weeks . I had to admire her for carrying on despite the fact that the room was freezing.
Yes it does, Russell, we’ve both been a few times this year for various appointments for both of us although the cardiac outpatients is OK or it has been when we’ve been there. I was in Critical Care for 2 weeks with my electrolyte problems & that was fine but some of the other wards could do with updating .
My daughter said the difference between Broad Green Cardiac wards & all their equipment compared to those on Arrowe Parke was amazing but the Broad Green is the specialist centre for the region.
I know Jean, the difference is remarkable When I was in the Broad Green after moving out of Intensive Care I went into the Critical Care Unit for 4 days, own room with telephone and tv. People coming to see me thought I was in a private room, they were dumbfounded going "This is a NHS room?"
Lovely staff, I was in agony with fractured ribs and frequently woke up in the night, one of the nurses would spot that I was aware and make me a cup of drinking chocolate and some toast, so nice.
Morning SpiritoftheFloyd. Yes i have this 1st episode to watch yet. TBH i always watch most hospital and police programmes. Lovely place as well Liverpool. My 2nd team The Reds. Special atmosphere when they sing YNWA. hope you stay safe and have a good weekend Brian
Morning Spirit. I prefer 24 Hours in A&E - filmed at St George's where I've spent many a happy hour in resus and majors. I may be exaggerating when I say happy!
I have experienced five A&E unitsover the years. Nowadays three no longer function as such; one is a Minor Injuries Unit and other two Urgent Care Centres - none is a 24x7 operation. One UCC had its hours cut temporarily about three years ago but the cut hours have never been reinstated with the Trust just waffling!
Really enjoyed the programme. Such hard work done there especially with the new hospital not completed and apparently now not safe and moving everyone around again. Fuming at the fact that the Carillion bosses paid themselves so much and left so many public buildings and projects in such a state.
Sadly the saga of the new Royal just gets worse and worse. One of the new sub-contractors engaged the hopefully get the project back on track, has itself gone bust on 6th February, so yet more delays.
I've been an out-patient in the current Royal and it is falling to bits - the staff are remarkably resilient in the face of all this, but I do feel sorry for them. It's over 2 years since Carillion went bust and we're really not a great deal further forward.
One of the newspaper tv reviewers had a pop at the management for moving people around needlessly - the reason patients and departments are being moved is due to the delay in the new hospital and the fact that parts of the existing hospital are becoming unsafe to use - managers I'm sure do not move people around for fun, perhaps the reviewer should have taken some time to find out the background before slating the NHS! - Rant Over 😎
Yes we noticed this I think when one of the Docs said this is the second move in 3 years but the reason was quickly pointed out. Thing is with all this moving days are lost and therefore waiting lists are getting longer I would imagine. Really very annoying I cannot imagine what it must be like to put up with all this either as someone who works int he hospitals or patients.
