Ablation for Ectopic Beats

I was wondering whether anyone had any experience regarding having an ablation because of ectopic beats and whether it was successful.

My ectopic beats were first detected roughly 7 months ago and have since been undergoing cardiology investigations.

I have so far had a 7 day ECG monitor and a echocardiogram. This showed I have a high burden of ectopics 34% but my echocardiogram was essentially normal with at most a mild degree of aortic regurgitation.

Currently taking Atenelol 25mg which hasn’t subsided my symptoms.

I keep being informed ectopic beats are harmless but mine appear to be getting worse recently and symptoms becoming stronger.

Cardiac ablation was discussed with me initially but they wanted to try medication first as i was informed it can be difficult to ablate.

I have been waiting for a tilt table test heard nothing yet from the last communication 4 weeks ago.

I am really struggling at work etc currently more than ever and my ectopics feel as though they are occurring every other beat all day. My palpitations feel much stronger, I feel breathless from minimal activity, tired and shakey/dizzy episodes.

Sorry for the delay in responding

I have been taking Flecainide now for 4/5 months which aside from some unwanted side-effects, it has helped ease some of my issues.

I get good and bad weeks

The Flecainide has not changed my rhythm in anyway and the ectopics are exactly as they are in the photo still.

What it has done is eased some of the horrible symptoms from the ectopics.

I feel for you, they are awful and have affected me massively.

The palpitations themselves are not as strong/noticeable as they were previous.

Before they were awful every single day and really struggled to function at normal activities.

I do now have a lower resting HR which I’m assuming is from taking beta blockers and the Flecainide but I’m tolerating it.

Hi Rose

Ectopic Beats are really weird things, have you ever been told what type are your Ectopic beats ?? On my last Holter mine said. " He has very frequent polymorphic ventricular ectopic beats and a total burden of VEs of 6.9 % and the Holter showed frequent episodes of Bigeminy and Trigeminy "

After this Holter I had another stress MRI scan which did reveal 3 segments of ischaemia. I do have Heart Failure 40 % EF which is not to bad !!

The upshot of this was my Bisoprolol was increased to 10mg and I am currently working up to maximum Entresto which seems to have changed how my heart beats. Ectopic Beats are a lot less and I really don't feel them like I used to. Hope that helps a little maybe gives you something to ask about.

Stay Well Stay Safe

Hello 😊

I’ve never actually been told what type my ectopics are for definite I was just informed they weren’t sure whether they were APCS or interpolated His-Purkinje ectopics.

The medication I currently take (Atenelol and Flecainide) has not changed my rhythm, if anything it has just slowed it down.

But on the plus side some of the symptoms have eased slightly and I am able to function better day to day.

Thank you, your reply was very helpfully

Have you tried any natural supplements? I had about 13% PVC burden and I refused any pharmaceuticals.. I chose to treat naturally.. I take taurine.. l-arginine .. magnesium glycinate and I drink al of of water I reduced my caffeine intake and I get regular exercise and now my PVC burden came in at 4% .. my dr didn’t support my treating naturally but he was impressed with my results ☺️
