Angina peeing me off,
Hi
If you have chest pain and the GTN spray doesn't help you need to go to hospital to be checked out .
Well said Milkfairy x
Normally they tell you if after taking Gtn three times and it hasn't eased off call an ambulance. Don't "arse" about.
my Cardiologist advised to take one spray of gtn and if pain doesn’t go away after a few mins .. take another and if that still doesn’t work then dial 999
The mind is a stubborn accomplice some times in our lives, especially when it comes to Nitro sprays or tabs. For years my husband just wouldn’t take when he had chest pain.
Finally I asked him why not, was he in denial and he needed a heart attack to prove he didn’t have heart disease. He didn’t have an answer. It just baffled me.
We finally sat down and talk about the consequences of not taking the med that could take away the pain and benefit every organ in his body and save his life. Did he want another heart attack or a disabilitating stroke?
Finally he takes his nitro when he needs it.
I have used the GTN spray when needed. I have kept a record of when I have had to use it. That's the only way to see if there IS a pattern.
In my case I have had to use the spray when it's cold and I am out walking, usually in the afternoon (when I may be a little more tired?) So when I go outside I always, now, have a scarf to cover over my nose and mouth when it is cold and this seems to help.
I know the couple of occasions when I had to use the GTN spray twice in quick succession as advised, then I did start to freak out a bit thinking I was having another heart attack. I sat down used the GTN as directed and took some deep breaths and, yes, the pain subsided so I did not have to resort to 999. But it was, I will admit, scary and I had that "Oh no not again" feeling of a heart attack suffered in October.
