Acheing muscles

Hi all, just a statin question, I am starting to get the old muscle aches regularly now which I believe could be an unpleasant side edge t of the statins! Does anybody else get these and is there a solution other than reducing dosage or stopping all together which I defintaley don’t want to do! Maybe helpful supplements or something?

Cheers

Yes I get these too. It’s a struggle to get my shirt on in the morning. When I mentioned it to my doctor she simply said “ Well, they are keeping you alive”. I am learning to live with it after almost a year.

There are many types of statins. Most people can find a statin and dose that works for them but it means working with your GP. I changed from Simvastatin to Atorvastatin and the muscle aches went. Both my cholesterol levels and LFT (liver function tests) are good.

I agree with MichaelJH except I changed from atorvastatin to rosuvastatin 10mg, I just get the odd ache when I've been stationary for a while but that is usual. I think you need to speak with gp again and try a different statin and dose especially as it's impacting on your daily living activities.

The other thing to watch out for with statins is blood sugar levels, unless you find the right one for you they can raise it into diabetes no amount of diet will change that. It's not always lifestyle changes it can be the meds. I insisted that they changed mine and low and behold my levels were back to normal 🙄

First question: why were you put on statins?

Cholesterol control

I would say, if not put on statins as part of heart condition/or post op then you should be able to control your cholesterol dietarily if you REALLY need to. I would add however that you need to look at the NHS take on cholesterol and the need to control it to the low levels it does. Check out Malcom Kendricks (Edinburgh GP) blog (also some interesting videos on you tube. Self education is always the key. Final point - think about the NHS demonisation of dietary fat -now being back-tracked.

I really did not think my post breached any of your ethos pointers. Could you explain why you think I have done this?

DaveyG71 has had a heart attack and stents. The idea of the statins is to try and avoid any reoccurance.

Thanks Michael, I just didn’t respond further because I could see this developing into a bit of a debate rather unexpectedly 😳! Happy with my statins btw and will continue to be, even happier if I can prevent the muscle niggles that accompany it 👍🏼 Proud of my weight loss and my fitness levels and would say I manage my diet mostly well! Though fallen off wagon a bit recently I’m back in it now and will shed the 7lb I out on over Xmas and through jan ! Hope all are well on here and keep fighting the good fight 👏🏻👏🏻

Hi Davey

How are your aches now?

Are you still on statins?

I took a short 12 week course of rosuvstatin 5 mgs ending in April 17

I stopped them myself (doc didn't, as he hould have) because of muscle aches

However, unfortunately the aches have NOT gone away and have progressed

And, like you, I would dearly love to find an answer to them

Good luck!
