Banging heart

I'm finding that either I am kept awake at night, or wake after about an hours sleep, with my heart banging so hard it feels like I'm one big heartbeat. It's unpleasant, to say the least. I've done a Kardia during it, and that says normal, and I've also done bp, which has been in the "ideal" bracket, so what's going on? I take flecainide for ectopics, which works really well, been taking it for ages now.

This banging does seem to occur particularly if I've eaten or drunk (not to excess!) in the evening, so I'm wondering if it's to do with that, as I have no other symptoms eg feeling dizzy or faint. I know if I eat a big meal in the day, I'm more conscious of my heart a while afterwards. But it all seems so much worse at night! I'd love to know if anyone else knows about this, it's pretty horrible when it's happening.

Hi, I have ectopic beats too and get the same feeling. If I'm having a night where it keeps waking me up, I get a a couple of extra pillows to sit me up a bit more. May be gravity helping to keep the stomach away!? I find lying flat on my tummy with no pillows can reduce the feeling too. Hope you get some relief!

This may sound strange but when experiencing palpitations some years ago I found that a drink of very cold water helped on each occasion. Of course, the obvious things to avoid are caffeinated drinks, chocolate and spicy foods especially in the hours before bedtime,

I have been experiencing the same situation, sometimes when I am awake in the morning I am very tried because I hardly get any sleep, am getting really frustrated now. I have done numerous tests and all am hearing is that all the results or ok, sometimes I feel as if I am not going to make it through the night. I really wish can get a real treatment for this. It can be really frustrating and frightening.

I know, it's awful. Have you tried looking at diet?
