Beta Blocker hitch

Hi. I am at the moment taking Cardevilol twice a day ( 25mg ) . I am now feeling very light headed and just not very well a couple of hours after the morning dose. I am wondering if I should go back a step to 12.5 x 2. Or one in the morning plus evening dose of 25mg. Does that make sense ? I have Left Ventricular Disorder as a result of taking Herceptin.

My Cardiologist only visits once a month and don’t want to bother my overworked GP. I’m quite sensible !

It always seems a shame to drop a drug when you have got to the target dose. My husband found the target dose for HF made him dizzy but stuck to it due to the benefits.

Do you have a proper breakfast, which can help with avoiding a drop in blood pressure? Personally I found on a high betablocker I couldn't function without elevenses!

Are you taking an ACE inhibitor as well? Sometimes taking that separately from the beta-blocker can help so you don't get all the blood pressure lowering at once.

I would think that if you do decide to reduce the carvedilol, then keep the evening dose as it is since that doesn't seem to be causing the problems, and then maybe try to up the morning dose again but in smaller increments.

All the best

Thank you Fortepiano for your good advice. It always helps to hear other people’s experiences. I think ..like your husband...I will persevere and see if it settles down . Do we have to take Beta Blockers for ever ?

I only have a piece of toast for breakfast. If it’s going to help I will have a bit more. And elevenses too !

I also take Ramipril, but I have it at lunchtime.

All Best Wishes and thanks.

I swear by porridge with fruit and nuts, but muesli and banana works too!

I hope things settle down.

I'm afraid the drugs are long term, but on the plus side they have made a real difference to outlook.
