Statins
Hi Rainbow1961. It depends which statin you’re on. Older statins should be taken in the evening as the liver produces more cholesterol in the evening. You can take Atorvastatin or Rosuvastatin at any time of the day as long as it’s the same time each day as they have a long half life. Suggest you talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you’re thinking of changing.
I'm on Atorvastatin and have been told to take it in the evening.
As Steve says it depends on the statin. Since I was changed to Atorvastatin I have taken it in the morning as easy to forget a single tablet in the evening. My total cholesterol is 3.0 and the doctors are happy! 😀
I agree with all the comments to this point. I’m on Atorvastatin and I take it somewhere around 6pm but in the past, I have taken it in the morning as I was getting to be a bit of an insomniac (no idea if the statin was the cause or not), but with trial and error I’ve found late afternoon/early evening works for me.
I am on atorvastatin and take it In the night before I sleep.
I take it at bedtime as my doc advised
Do statins make anyone else sleepy, or is it just me? 😊
hi i was on atorvastatin and came of it ,it gave me cramp and could hardly walk went for a blood test which found it was the statin came of it straight away never again will i take another statin but for some people statins work
I agree. They seem to cause a lot of problems. I have stopped taking them as my cholesterol numbers are all OK not sure why I have been given them. I have had my stents and I suffered terrible joint and muscle pains when taking them. The do stop inflammation but I am working on diet instead.
Before bedtime.
I started taking mine in the evening as it gave me terrible upset stomach (which only marginally improved), told my Heart Failure nurse and she advised first thing in the morning and I’ve been doing that for a week now and the stomach problems have stopped.
Hi. I take Atorvastatin and my GP recommended that I take this in the evening after I have eaten.
Early in my treatment I was advised to take the avorstatin @7pm, on occasions during the early hours following this dose it seemed to cause my shins to feel like I'd been in a Cumbrian shin kicking contest without any padding . Taking the does later (between 8pm/10pm)and always after the evening meal these pains stopped occurring. No tests were done to confirm and its was only a suspicion it was the avorstatin, the GP was reluctant to alter the selected statin or dosage (stat 80mg) as its apparently the better one to be on if you are compatible with it. Since then I don't have any aches that aren't normal for my age /condition /decrepitness that would appear to be statin related.
