I’ve been on Atorvastatin for about 8mths and the last 3 months my legs are aching. Could that be statins.? Thanks #statins #Atorvastatin

Statins
Hello
Statins have been known to give joint aches and pains
If you talk with your Doctor they can decide if this is the cause or if it could be something else causing it and then decide what to do from there x
Mine got to the stage where some days I couldn't walk along the hall without holding on. I'm now on rosuvastatin 5mg. Not perfect but a great improvement. I have both osteo and inflammatory arthritis so it may be the case that this was aggravated by the statin. I'm unaware of research on this .
Can I ask when you started on the 5mg did you get any bad side effects. I have an appointment on Monday following blood tests and think cholesterol must be raised. I cannot tolerate statins but would try a lesser dose
Hi Atma, similar story. I’ve been on Atorstatin for 5 months and all of a sudden I started experiencing severe leg pain. I’ve not taken them for 3 weeks and the pain hasn’t subsided yet so I really don’t know. I also suffer from inflammation of the joints so like someone else said, it could be related . I’m convinced that the statins have affected my legs though.
Hi Atma, it certainly could be the statins. A lot of people on here have similar issues. Personally, I changed recently to Rosuvastatin, not perfect, but an improvement. Try asking your GP to change the statins, until you find the right one for you. (Medical disclaimer here 🤣) I'm no Dr 😊
It would seem that for some of us taking statin isn't an option. Ive tried three, Atorvastatin, Pravastatin and Ezetimibe. Sadly all left me with horrible side effects. I discussed the matter with my GP who was in agreement with me to drop them. For me, and my body, I considered the ability to exercise freely with muscle and joint pain far outweighed the benefit of the statin when it comes to longevity. Im now walking 10km a day along with an active working day, I also manage two or three 30km hard cycle rides a week. There was no way I could have done that whilst taking them.
I developed hip and wrist pain while on 40mg Atorvastatin. My cholesterol was not high beforehand. As statins provide other benefits to heart issues I've reduced the dosage to 20mg and all is fine now.
Hi Atma123. Same here and I don’t know if it’s the statins or sciatica. I take Atorvastatin 80mg.
Probably the statins, yes. Have a chat to your doctor about CoQ10 supplementation.
Pain is proving Statins are clearing your veins from blockages, like chemicals clear blocked drains.etc. I use them ,have plenty of nightmares...clearing cholesterol from my brain. Have had two TIA's but think would have been full stroke had I not taken th em. Only downside seems they loosen your teeth.as they affect your vitamin D. So get vitamin D from Doctor or chemist. I have lost teeth but could also be old age, I was born the same week as John.Lennon...Blitz baby. Good luck with your health. Wenlock.
I've been on Atorvastatin 10mg for 22 years, no side effects. Also on Bisoprolol 5mg (beta blocker) 22 years (no side effects) along with Ramipril 2.5 mg.
My nephew who is in his mid 50's takes statins as he was diagnoses with a TIA last year. He also experienced joint and muscle aches until a friend, also a sufferer, suggested he take a Vitamim D supplement, that has worked for him. I've consulted doctor Google and there are a few articles suggesting Vitamin D is a possible solution however for obvious reasons, I would consult your doctor before taking this supplement.
