I’ve had one for nearly 3 yrs now, my EF is up from 17% to 43% as of last year and has stayed the same. I had an infection on the incision area after the surgery which eventually cleared up. I was extremely run down by the time I was diagnosed and any bug etc that was going round I got. Have (touch wood) been much better the past 6 months.

Apart from the fact I can feel it near the skin I wouldn’t know it’s there.

You will need to go to hospital for 6 monthly checks which don’t take long.

You will need to carry your card with you when travelling abroad so you don’t go through the full scanners. You will get a pat down instead.

I carry mine with me all the time just in case.

It’s very frightening and worrying when you are first diagnosed and you don’t know what is happening to you. Personally I found my HF nurse invaluable and a great help. Along with the BHF handbook which I have uploaded in a previous post.

Take care, Fiona
