CRT/D

HI All,

Had my CRT/D fitted two weeks ago, not as bad as I thought at the time and still a bit of discomfort but you would expect that.

Last night at 00:29 someone hit me in the chest not enough to throw me out of bed but just enough to wake me up with central chest discomfort. this only lasted for a short while.

The question is was I dreaming or does this happen .woke up this morning feeling breathless but ok. I have a monitor next to my bed so I'm now not sure if it did happen.

Has this happened to anyone else.

Hi,

A CRT/D is a new cardiac resynchronisation therapy and defibrillator device.

Like a pacemaker.

Hi Pete - this could have been your ICD shocking you. Have you been in touch with your clinic? They may want to download the data and analyse it.

Hope this helps, Chris

Hi, I have a CRT-D too and once woke up feeling like I had been thumped in the chest. I was fairly certain it wasn't a hard enough thump to be a shock, but it was hard enough to make me wake up with a start. I was due for a check-up on the device anyway so asked if I had been shocked and they said I hadn't. I never found out what it was, or maybe if I dreamed it or it had nothing to do with my device at all... But whatever it was, it didn't do me (or my CRT-D) any harm and it hasn't happened again.

Chances are you would know if you had been shocked, I think, but I would follow Chris's advice and find out for sure anyway. Good luck and let us know if you get an answer :)

Thank you for your down to earth posts Laura. I've just joined HealthUnlocked as I'm getting a CRT-d fitted in a few weeks, & although the consultants have been great, I've found looking at what you've said quite reassuring & honest.

Aw, thanks, glad I could help you. Good luck with the device and remember to pick the brains of the forum if you have any questions or concerns, there's a few of us on here with a CRT-D. Keep in touch x

Hi, this is weird but I too have been woken from my sleep with what felt like a thump in the chest and again it was a couple of weeks after my ICD implant (mine's not a CRT-D). My story is the same as Laura's in that it didn't seem hard enough to be a shock but it certainly woke me up from a deep sleep. I tried to make myself feel better thinking, ah well if that what it feels like to be shocked i can handle that. Anyway long story short, I hadn't been shocked. I put it down to an anxiety dream. Its never happened since (3 months in) How strange though.

I'm really interested to find out if you've got it checked out and what you found out.

Spatz x

Hi everyone, thanks for you response. I have not had time to check with the hospital regarding this possible icd shock because I'm in and out of hospital with my wife as she has cancer and as you know it's constant hospital. Visits so I put my problems on the back burner at the moment. I have a home monitor for the icd so if a problem did occur then I would hope they would ring me.

You have put my mind at ease I'm sure it was something else and not a shock. Thank you all.

Pete
