Hi I am just wondering if anyone else here has a problem getting blood pressure down and stabilised? I am on 10mg amlodopine and 5 mg ramipril since August. I have lost 2 stone and upped my exercise but my blood pressure stubbornly sticking up. Lowest it's been in 4 months is 140/85. My doctor is extremely supportive and says we will get it down but I am getting more and more anxious over why it's high. I don't think it's doing my BP much good. Sorry to sound negative but feeling quite low today. Anyone else had similar problem?

Hello and welcome to the forum! I haven't but have been on BP medication pre and post bypass. There are many causes of high blood pressure including being overweight, being unfit, damage to the system that regulates blood pressure from various causes, and kidney problems. Your GP seems to be on the case which is good.

Are you a worrier, do you suffer from stress? These can raise blood pressure and relaxation techniques may help.

I'm on the same meds but 5mg of each but I was on 10mg of amlodipine initially and 5mg ramipril, then 10mg ramipril and 5mg amlodipine. Both disagreed with me at 10mg and my bp.was quite low at home so they dropped it to 5mg apiece. My point is it is low at home, put me in the doctors or the hospital and it rockets up.I was at 170/100 when I met the cardiologist for the first time earlier this month. Now I'm a big white coat sufferer so I know how anxiety affects bp.My husband measures my bp at home and doesn't tell me but I pass the results to the doctors in a sealed envelope.I know I sound like a kid but anxiety can really do this to you.Have you tried someone else taking it at home? The more you worry about getting it down the higher it will be.Trust me I know.😏

Hi sorry so late at responding to you. I know exactly what you mean I am the same . I worry myself into a small corner every time I have my BP taken and as a result I am now on higher dose meds. I just wish I could just stop worrying but I can't . Thank you for sharing your story I feel glad I am not alone xx

To be blunt, exactly the same issue, BP refuses to come down to what the doctor thinks is satisfactory. It averages 135/90 . I was on 100mg losartan but started to get major dizzy spells, so reduced to 50mg then increased to 75mg and then back to 100mg which I seem to be tolerating but my diastolic still refuses to get down to the lower 80s. As of Tuesday I am also on amlodipine 5mg so can’t really say if it is helping yet.

You are not alone
