Praise for my GP

Hi, this is only my 2nd post so please be patient if I go off track. I went to surgery about painfully swollen left knee and foot, got xrays and have gone back for answers. Was told that it was wear and tear then we have the but, xrays show calcified artery in leg - that was Tuesday. Wednesday had ECG and blood pressure, Thursday had another GP appointment to try and sort out pain issues, that leaves Friday (in same week), fasting bloods and chest xrays. Doctor thinks it could be heart failure along with what I already have - severe brittle asthma, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and on and on. Never knew that doctors could move that fast to find answers.

Hiya, welcome, and yes they can move that fast but in honesty the speed at which they move is something of a postcode lottery and can depend on the surgery, the trust, and the 'potential imminent for consequences' situation of any condition(s) found.

Not the greatest news to have to worry about over the festive season but how great is it they are paying enough attention to catch a calcified artery which led them to do further investigation that led them to suspect heart failure (HF)?

Er, re HF - it's not the dire diagnosis random Googling would lead a searcher to think. If you chose to Google (or Bing, etc), be sure to ONLY click links to credible sources like the British Heart Foundation, Chest, Heart and Stroke UK, and some of the American sites like the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Princeton Med, Harvard Med, American Heart Foundation. Many of the other links that will come up using the search term *heart failure* will leave you utterly convinced you should be making out your will and saying good-bye to loved ones - which isn't really the case with HF ordinarily but wowsa will the iffy links give you nightmares!

There are also Facebook groups for HF if your diagnosis turns up as HF.

We have several HF posters here on the forum and hopefully one or more will be along shortly with better information and words of golden wisdom gleaned from their experiences.

FTR, I don't have HF - I have other multiple heart conditions.

Are you saying the pain and swelling was HF or the X-ray showed another problem associated with HF please would like to know because I suddenly got a very swollen and painful knee last week it’s better now but I had no idea what bought it on. Take care xxx

Hi, my gp still doesn't know what is causing swelling off knee or foot, xray was to see if I had done any damage to my bones ( just shows, wear & tear ). It was when checking xrays that showed up calcification in arteries . You are ok & safe from hf with regard to your knee swelling (I think ) because yours has gone down whereas mine is still very swollen
