I was due to have a double knee replacement in January all was going fine until I but received a letter from a consultant Anaeathetust saying due to the fact I had a heart attack in June and im on I'm on Ticagrelor until June 2020 I'm going to have to wait until after June 2020 for my knee replacements to say I'm gutted is an understatement I had mentally prepared myself for this op, cardiac consultant thought there would be no problem!! Anyone had a similar experience!! I guess they have the final say is with anaesthetist!!

I had a heart attack last December and am also on Ticagrelor until the end of December this year.

I had an ICD fitted in August (admittedly a much smaller procedure than your knee op and also only requiring a local anaesthetic rather than a general one. I was told to stop taking ticagrelor 7 days before my procedure and to re-start it the day after.

I don't know, but maybe there's a different approach if you're getting a general anaesthetic as opposed to a local one.

Sorry I can't help any further. Hope it all goes well, whenever you get it done.

Yes thank you, absolutely fine, in and out the same day, no subsequent issues. Very interesting (and a bit weird) being awake while they work on you!

Thank you for your response I was also due to have a spinal and not a general, which is not as hard on the heart I am doing so well according to my my cardiac consultant she did not think there would be a problem also

my orthopaedic consultant was ok with it like you I thought I would come off the blood thinners then back on them after surgery I have not even seen the anaesthetist that's has taken this decision!! I'm back to excerise every medical person says I have done so well, not sure whether to challenge the decision or just accept the decision and wait another six or seven months.!!

Strange, I think if I was you I'd ask for a exact reason why they came to this decision.

Yea think I might get intouch and ask because surely it should be a person centred decision! Thank you !

I had my heart attack in June 2029 out of the blue had two stents fitted in same artery as an emergency, five days in hospital the rest of arteries in heart are apparently all clear!!

I had my heart attack in August 2019 had 1 stent, now on Ticagrelor for 12 months & aspirin for life.

I saw endocrinology team in October advised I need a biopsy re my adrenal glands for hyperaldosteronism, then surgery for adrenalectomy, Dr's said I could have biopsy in 2 weeks, surgery in 2 months, the same week I had follow up with my cardiologist he advised that I could not stop Ticagrelor or aspirin until I had been on them for 6 months, so my biopsy has been deferred until March 2020 surgery tba.

Thanks for your reply I guess I will have to be patient I understand there is a risk with blood thinners ironically I think you get blood thinners automatically after knee replacement surgery to stop blood clotting !! Think because I was mentally ready for op to be told I have to wait until After June next year is hard!!thanks anyway hope you are good now after your op!!

I knew someone who had an epidural so she was awake throughout her knee replacement.
