On Monday I felt fine by Monday night I was not sleeping and had severe fatigue and muscle aches. Was starting to worry I had some some of silent event! As I had a similar fatigue issue prior to my heart attack. ( I suspect this was a small attack)
Then the stomach cramps and diarrhoea kicked in. As my partner ate the same meals as me and she had no issues discounted food poisoning. Looking on the net symptoms match with Gastric flu or Novo virus. However no vomiting so I don’t think it’s Novo.
Friday I am less aching but still have the diarrhoea and stomach cramps. My concern is will the passage of liquids through my system and this rate effect my medications which are the fairly standard variety post MI.
Aspirin
Ace inhibitors
Beta blockers
Statins
Any ideas. I am now just about eating a small amount of toast and some baked beans etc so something in my stomach if only for a short while
Have researched rehydration solutions and made some up. Will start sipping that today.

Hi jobe1968 I couldn't find much on effect diarrhoea has on heart meds. I did find the attached link on effect on heart failure meds heartfailurematters.org/en_....
My partner recently had a really nadty bug after a holiday in Spain and had diarrhoea on and off for 2 weeks with no noticeable effect on heart issues. If you detect any change in heart rhythm of GP I would seek medical advice or if your symptoms don't start to improve in the next few days. Plain boiled rice can help in absorbing toxins and you could try taking a good probiotic. Take care hope you feel better soon
Jobe1968 I too suffer from fatigue which I accept is part and parcel of having heart surgery. However, I think you're right to be concerned about the diarrhea and would suggest you chat to your GP. Good luck.
Final point jobe ramipril can interact with potassium supplements which may be in rehydration solutions so check with pharmacist before taking potassium supplements with ramipril
Hi, I had similar symptoms. I was ok with medication at first then after about 2 weeks my symptoms started. I spoke to the pharmacist and she advised it was the statins which gave me cramp like feelings in my legs and arms and it’s just the medication getting into your system causing the diahrrea. The symptoms passed after about 5 days. Fatigue still happens but should improve as you get stronger. If the aches persist, speak to your pharmacist or GP. It all takes time but hopefully you feel better soon.
As much as we focus on our heart disease sometimes it’s not our heart, it’s just that we get sick like everyone else.
Whether it’s the flu, a cold, a tummy ache, we just naturally assume it’s our heart. It’s a fact of life that our hearts are our lifeline and we want to be absolutely certain we don’t ignore the warning signs. And certainly we have compromised immune systems so any other illness amplifies the tiredness most non-hearties experience.
I’ve experienced the same symptoms as you and went through the same self-diagnosis but I don’t know if I touched something my hubby didn’t like when I was preparing the chicken for the oven, did I not wash my hands after strolling through the grocery store with my cart or did I shake someone’s hand, or was I in the area of someone’s sneeze. It’s hard to say, and it’s even harder to realize that in n m any ways we are still “normal”.
With the Holiday Season we do so much more than we realize. So no need not to enjoy the Season to Be Jolly-just take time to take a nap and count our blessings.
Yes. I am careful regards hygiene and using Chlorine spray on surfaces etc. Now day five! Hopefully it will leave my system soon. It seems infectious for up to two weeks after so will be using the increased caution around the house for some time. Real world is not under my control however it is interesting to note hand sanitizer does not protect so well against Novo virus 🦠 also it really needs a high heat to kill it off, so definitely nothing rare or underdone anytime soon.
Yes I thought I made that point. Although if on the move it’s better than nothing. Access to proper washing facilities is not everywhere. You can carry hand sanitizer on your person
