Hi, I’ve been taking 1.25 Ramipril at night for two weeks now and on Monday woke with vertigo which lasted a couple of hours. On Wednesday I woke with severe vertigo which lasted much longer and I was close to being sick. I was unwell all day really. Blood pressure was normal both days. I had been fine on Tuesday and the only variable I can immediately see is that I had half a glass of wine on Sunday evening and a bottle of beer with lunch on Tuesday, then felt ill the following mornings. Is this normal with Ramipril? Although I hardly drink, when on holiday as now, I do like an occasional one. We are on our canal boat and vertigo was made worse by the boat’s movements. I have had vertigo years ago but it wasn’t quite like this. I will ring GP or pharmacy for advice but wondered if others had experienced this and if it went away? Thanks.

Hi fantasyfanuk. Ramipril (as you NI doubt know) reduces blood pressure which is then further lowered by alchohol (which also reduces BP). To be fair - feeling I’ll all day does sound a bit extreme with half a glass of wine and a bottle of beer. I have had this but it has worn off pretty quickly. I still have to get up from a prone position in stages to avoid feeling dizzy (and that’s without the booze!)
