Criteria for stopping Bisoprolol?

I notice in some people's posts that they have been able to stop Bisoprolol after year. How ? My EF is back with normal range ( 66%) but have been told to take it for life ( 2.5 mg).

It's a personal choice, it's your body, you have a certificate to prove it. I stopped because the quality of life was poor. I'd rather have 5 years of good quality than 20 years half asleep, tired and exhausted most of the time. Stopped overnight, Dr didn't like it, but i'm so glad i did. I couldn't have coped when my wife left me and i had to move and start living on my own on those tablets at the age of 72. You have to make decisions in life for yourself, doctors are there to advise, you decide for yourself. My EF was 65% also.

I think you will find that people have chosen to stop rather than been told to because of the side effects.

My gp has halved my dose recently I am stage four and she says quality rather than quantity but I would only do it on medical advice

Contact your Cardiac Rehab team. I struggled with extreme fatigue taking bisoporal and after talking to the Consultant they arranged for it to be reduced then stopped.

With bisoprol I had fatigue and brain fog. I started Linus Pauling high dose vit C and stopped the other drugs and feel better. It's a personal choice the bisoprol ol might keep you alive but I prefer living

My husband has been taking 1.25 for almost a year now and he's not had any problems, could you ask for the dosage to be reduced?

Hi Leslie

I have been on 10mg now reduced to 7.5mg for a few years and I believe it's one medication that I need to help maintain a decent Heart Function.

Still trying to evaluate the effect of the Entresto it's in the balance if it has made much of a difference !!

It is a good med for the heart. Kevins on it to stop him having vt's & it's certainly worked for him.

Looking increasingly unlikely Kevin will be able to take Entresto. Are you being highly monitored on it?

Hello Lezzers

I haven't seen the Heart Nurse for about 10 weeks since my dose of entresto was increased. I did have a blood test which came back satisfactory so that looks OK.

Last time I saw my GP she did pass the comment "you cope really well with all this business " if you feel you need to see me it's on your record you will not have to wait words to that effect.

Now I am just having a Beer to celebrate the England win over the Kiwis tomorrow as I don't tend to drink in the mornings. If we should not make it ( don't like the word lose ) I will have drowned my sorrows LOL

ps was told to weigh and take BP and HR every day and if concerned phone in !!!

Glad to hear you're doing so well, Kevin was also told to check weight & BP everyday. The weight is in case you're carrying fluid and as you know the Entresto can lower your BP. Kevin doesn't really monitor his weight too much, I think he knows when there's a problem and at the moment he's been submitting daily BP readings to GP for couple of months now to see if he can take the Entresto, not that it's looking likely.

Hope you enjoyed the game & managed to not get too over excited, another beer tonight?

I did enjoy the game one of the best England teams for a while.

I have drunk my quota for this week ( 8 x440 cans ) so will have to wait for the Final next Saturday !! Was going to have a look at Shaftsbury today but it is bucketing it down here in the S West !!

I’m 10 months post 2 stents in 95% LAD block. Saw a new consultant who was happy with me to come of Bisoprlol ....which surprised me. I’m on half dose for another week. Resting heart rate around 60 now. I definitely feel better on a half dose. Less cold, much more alert.

Hi DavidG1971 - did the consultant explain why it was OK to stop?

First - I asked as I didn’t want to face another cold winter on them. I found it very hard last year. Always tired and cold. Consultant seemed happy to oblige because my fitness levels appear good. I do have an ECG test very soon to assess impact of my remaining blockage (was judged to be 30%). Once I’m through that I’ll feel safe. Despite wanting to come off the pills - was scary to actually do

it. So far, so good. Energy levels are way up.
