Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had a very upset stomach/diarrhoea when stopping verapamil? Had been taking verapamil for 10yrs for Supra Ventilator Ectopics but they weren’t great for controlling them. Recently diagnosed with Paroxysmal AF so taking Flecanide as pill in pocket which works well. Verapamil has been changed to Bisoprolol 2.5 mg twice daily. This has worked great for controlling my heart but upset stomach is stopping me leaving the house. Don’t know if stopping the verapamil ( which has constipating effect) is now causing the diarrhoea or the beta blocker…. have been taking for three weeks now. Has anyone suffered from diarrhoea from Bisoprolol or from stopping verapamil? Reluctant to stop bisoprolol as working well for my fast heart rate. Any info greatly appreciated….thanks

Hi, I'm very new to this site. Joined this morning. At least it's good to know that I can be of help as just started on Bisoprolol 5 days ( and counting ago ) 👍 yes, I'm experiencing tummy cramps and frequent loo visits . Read side effects associated with these meds and it does mention this. Vein on 5th day now, I felt it was a tad easier yesterday . Hope yours gets easier

Hi, thanks for your reply. Hope things settle for you quickly! I’m three weeks into Bisoprolol and it’s getting worse by the day . I think my body must be so used to being in a slightly constipated state having been on previous tablets for so long that it’s going to take a while to adjust…… if not it’s the Bisoprolol that’s upsetting me!! It’s listed as a side effect but there’s only so long I can put up with it ! It’s not much fun all this ☹️ I hope all goes well for you 🤞🏼😊 thank you

Hi, I've been on bisoprolol since June following NSTEMI, have no diarrhoea, it's more constipation with me. If it persists I would speak to your gp. All the best to you 🤞

Hi, thank you so much for your reply. I will give the Bisoprolol a little longer to see what happens but I’ll definitely speak to my GP as probably a few other bb’s I could try…. just hoping they don’t all cause the same problem! Best wishes to you… hope all goes well

I think that Bisoprolol is usually more known for causing constipation - it’s certainly had that effect for me. I remember that Dronedarone had the opposite effect.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have read that people seem to suffer more with constipation than diarrhoea….. I’ll give it a little more time but I’m struggling to even leave the house! I’ll give it a few more weeks to see if it settles …. if not I’ll speak to GP and maybe switch to Nebevilol and just hope thats ok! Thank you

Hallo Kbkk. I've been taking Bisoprolol for several years with no problems, but drugs affect people differently, and hopefully your diarrhoea will settle down. Best wishes.

Hi, I've been taking by bisoprolol for nearly two years and although I get a lot of stomach grumbling I haven't had that much of a problem and it seems to be doing the job really well. Mind you everybody's different, aren't we!?
