A day of heart burn or warning sign?

Hi Everyone,

I am post stent (one number) for approximately 2 months now. I have been taking all my meds religiously and back in the gym and exercising at a fair trot. However, yesterday I experienced half a day of what I can only describe as a mild heartburn. Of course, my mind goes straight to heart problems so wondered if anyone else has had anything similar? Off to the hospital next week so I am sure they will let me know but I find the answers from you guys a lot more understandable. Don't worry, I'm not looking for a diagnosis :)

Happy Friday All.

See my posting today on acid relux and google it to find out what to do to relieve it.

Chew gum, drink ginger tea, eat oatmeal and banana, etc. If it gets better there is a good chance it is not heart related.

Let us know please.

Hi Khonkaen,

Thanks for the feedback, it seems to have gone now. I do get acid reflux but it is not generally of the heart burn variety (I clear my throat a lot!). I'm pretty upbeat about these types of things but it does tend to make me second guess every chest related tingle!!

I am preety certain it is acid reflux, but it is so difficult to shift. If I push hard to release the pressure (burp) something shuts down, so I have to wait until it is good and ready to "blow".

Bloody annoying, I could do with engineering a manual operated relief valve, this has been with me since 8 am, so that is 6 hours of on and off chest pain.

Gaviscon is a complete waste of time and money IMO.

haha! I know exactly what you mean!! Gaviscon didn't help me either and it was disgusting :(

Gaviscon spends millions on advertising, so everyone thinks it works. My doctor recomended it after I had bought some and when I told him it didn't work, he kind of agreed with me..ha ha!

Hi Jimmy. Did you have a HA followed by stent or was this following a blockage? I had a HA which closely mimicked indigestion (pain high in stomach) but that wasn’t the heartburn type of indigestion. And it then rapidly got more intense and radiated down left arm and I ‘knew’ I had a problem. Of course everyone is different and all of us on the CCU had a different experience. Is it linked to exercise or eating something different or to excess? Did Gaviscon get rid of it? 2 months is still early days. What meds are you on?

Hi Steve,

My stent was following a blockage. It didn't get any more intense but it was constant. I know it's difficult to compare these things but I always find this forum helpful. I did 'overdo it' at the gym with some circuit training the day before so I thought this may have triggered it. I took some Omeprazole which helped. I am taking 75mg Aspirin, 75mg Clopidogrel, 80mg Astorvastatin, 1.25mg Bisoprolol.

The aspirins and Clopidogrel can cause heartburn (but guessing you know that). Do you take your Omeprazole regularly or just when you need it? I took Lansoprazole (same sort of thing) regularly every day before breakfast while I was on anti platelet therapy for the first year and the stopped when I was just on aspirin. Overdoing it at the gym - especially if your food hadn’t digested could have tipped you over the edge.

yes, I knew I would be in for some heartburn trouble with all the meds. I take Omeprazole when I need it. Sometimes it seems to work and sometimes not. Maybe I need to take it regularly to make a real impact. I am going to go easy at the gym and make sure I have eaten well before I go so food has digested properly. Thanks for all your feedback, it is much appreciated.
