Oh cmon Frank you must remember Jif, it was a household cleaning product!! You obviously didn't do enough cleaning when you were younger!! Jif became Cif!!πŸ˜‚

When I worked in Brussels it was sold as Vim, but not Vim as you know it!

Talking of brands there is a limited edition Snickers coming out called Marathon!

I remember being so upset when they changed the name, I almost didn't eat it again. Snickers I mean, not Cif ☺ I remember Vim, that was a real scourer. Did I miss - remember the jif/Cif?

MichaelJH profile image
MichaelJHHeart Starβ€’ in reply toLezzers

Vim in Brussels was Jif in UK...

Lezzers profile image
Lezzersβ€’ in reply toMichaelJH

Hmmm, gonna have to Google that now.

As I remember it was that Vim was always a scouring powder and Jif was a cream!?

Possibly all gone - Morrisons have limited the number you can buy after someone bought Β£100 worth of them! I assume they plan to hoard them for a little while and then put them on eBay.

Well that's ruined my evening, I didn't even know they were already being sold!

For 12 weeks apparently, but it doesn't look like they'll make it!

I'm just off to the shops!

You could compensate with the 1lb Snickers!

I remember Vim a dry powder but Jif I do remember I Didn't understand why the name would offend ?

Lezzers profile image
Lezzersβ€’ in reply toPrada47

No idea why it would offend. Here's tonight most useless fact, the artist Frances Bacon used Vim as a substitute for toothpaste! 😱

The reason that Cif offended at the time of the change is that it’s a shortened version of syphilis. I think most folk were miffed that British named products were changed for the European market instead of them taking on our product names.

Lezzers profile image
Lezzersβ€’ in reply toKimkat

Well I had no idea πŸ€” I kinda remember the miffed bit though.

Yes, eating challenges are probably as inappropriate for a Heart Forum as extreme diets!

Think I will pass as my BG would sky rocket. Used to occasionally have a jumbo mixed grill; 10oz steak, chicken breast, gammon steak, lamb chop and jumbo sausage. Couldn't finish the chips though!

Hi l read somewhere they changed the name of Oil of Ulay to Oil of Olay because in the language of outer Mongolia it means oil of bum!!! l have seen photos of the people who live there and l don't think for one moment any of them use cream on any part of their bodies.

I'm laughing as I read this thread. Other than the snickers bar I have no idea what you guys are talking about lol

We do have jif peanut butter. Do you guys have that??

Lezzers profile image
Lezzersβ€’ in reply toDolphin14

I've never heard of Jif peanut butter but it sounds versatile, cleaning your teeth whilst eating something tasty sounds good to me πŸ˜‚

Lol, it's so funny how things are so different. We have so much in common and can speak heart disease. Yet, I can't grasp onto your conversation a lot of times.

This one was great. I was so glad to see the snickers bar that I had to comment.

Love a snicker bar, my all time favourite chocolate bar.

I've a newly discovered American family, I need an interpretor at times to know what they're saying. Mind you I also used to need an interpretor to understand my Scottish granny's accent, beautiful though it was.

I was only half joking yesterday when I said "I assume they plan to hoard them for a little while and then put them on eBay."

They're on eBay at Β£4.75 for a pack (price in Morrisons is Β£1)

Lezzers profile image
Lezzersβ€’ in reply toSpiritoftheFloyd

Ha, and this time next year they'll be millionaires πŸ˜‚

Most brand names are owned by only a dozen or so vast companies. Thinking back I think the Jif issue came about because Unilever(?) also owned the Jif squeezey lemon brand as well.

Not what you're looking for?
