Reply one: You're right, that is the point. I don't give a toss. But each year I am invited to the "Cardiac Desease Clinic" for my annual check. I know many people who have never had, "Heart Disease" who in a far worse sate of health than me.
Reply two. You ask what it stops me from doing. The simple answer is nothing, so long as it doesn't have life threatening consequences to myself or anyone else. The reason I bring up the issue is that being 75 and having "Heart Desease", based on the Covid 19 rules, I'm supposed to lock myself away, not move out of the house and die quietly. I can assure all of my "Cardiac Deseased" peers that I am at present walking a minimum of five miles each day. This may be flouting the lock down rules but I am sure that walking in isolated countryside for a couple of hours each day is not threatening the wellbeing of anyone. The back and hip ache a bit when I get back home but a couple of paracetamol sorts that out.
My message being, if you're used to getting out and about don't let this current situation tie you to the house. Obviously stay the recommended two metres apart from others. Wash your hands when you get home and enjoy a large G & T.
I'm glad you are doing so well, it is good to hear such positive stories. I don't think going out walking in the countryside, near your home in isolation, is flouting any lockdown rules. I do the same, sometimes alone sometimes with my husband. I have heart failure and rheumatoid arthritis and walking is essential for the management of both. TBH, I'd still go out walking even if it was flouting the rules. I'm not putting anyone else or myself in danger from the virus and that is the bottom line. Not going would, on the other hand, put me in danger of worsening heart failure and arthritis. Wishing you happy walks for many more years.
Lock down rules don't currently have exercise time constraints other than once a day, although Michael Gove took it upon himself to suggest 30 mins for joggers, 60 mins for walkers and somewhere in between for cyclists. But we can safely ignore him - which gives me enormous pleasure!
Refreshingly we're apparently permitted to drive then exercise, providing the drive time is no greater than the exercise period.
My only regret is that I'll have to stop berating passing cars with the question " necessary journey?"
Thanks Ian. My understanding is that if you are over 70 with an underlying medical condition you are supposed to lock yourself away from the rest of the planet. In my view this is probably the worst thing anyone could do. The psychological effects of that kind of isolation would be far more detrimental to one's health than spending an hour or so outdoors each day. Yes, I'm also ignoring these stupid rules.
