Ramipril and hand swelling

A query for my friend who started Ramipril 4 weeks ago and is experiencing gradual swelling of her fingers and hands ( water retention?). Her GP suspected Arthritis and carried out blood tests but no raised inflammation levels. My friend suspects the swelling is a side effect of Ramipril and I wondered if anybody else had this? If so, what alternative meds did you switch to?

I take ramipril and I also have some arthritis and some hand swelling, so its hard to say what the cause is. But here is a tip. I broke some very small bones in my fingers some time ago and after the hand had mended itself the hand-nurse gave me some very good finger exercises, which she said "would also help with the arthritis". I still do them and it really helps, so think about exercises.

Cheers,

Otto

I am on Ramipril and it is not a side-effect I have suffered but looking here, hand swelling is listed as a possible side-effect:-

I was on Ramipril for a year and had swollen, hyper-sensitive feet (not water retention). My cardiologist switched me to Candesartan a month ago, and both the swelling and sensitivity have eased slightly.

It takes about 2 months to settle into a new drug, so your friend's hands may improve as her circulation gets used to it.
