Hello and welcome to the forum! One thing you do not mention is your cholesterol level and its breakdown. If it needs lowering there are alternatives to statins. Statins also stabilise plaque and reduce irritation, often a precursor to plaque formation.
There are many different statins and yes some have yukky side effects - my husband slept all the time on his first one - but you can probably find one that’s right for you. If your Dr thinks they’re a really important addition then perhaps try a couple of different ones?
Hi, sounds like you have tried a few different ones already. There is plenty of information on the internet about statins. There were lots of original studies done by the manufacturers but no one else was allowed to see the raw data. Some of that has come to light now and being completely turned round. No one can tell you what to do. Do some research which should help you make your mind up.
Try You Tube - 'Big Pharma killing for profit' -discussion at EU with eminent cardiologists re statins, cholesterol, etc. which suggests that there may be verifiable research that contradicts statin and cholesterol issues in relation to their effect on heart health and use in many people. Also The 'York Cardiologist' videos of Dr Sanjay Gupta on a wide range of associated issues. Hope it helps - its made me rather cynical about a lot of current medical practises.
Dr Sanjay Gupta's video's are not as accurate as they could be.
His information about Microvascular angina and Coronary artery spasms is out of date.
I sent him the latest research including the BHF website site updates which were informed by leading specialists and an expert patient by experience and asked him to update his information.........I am still waiting over a year later.
Thanks Milkfairy. Glad you updated him, he does seem fairly on the ball with a lot of things and prepared to look at heart conditions in quite a holistic way which I find refreshing.
I would recommend watching a interview with a leading cardiologist called "Stents and Statins, do they work? A top Cardiologists view". It's food for thought
Most nuts (e.g. almonds, walnuts even peanuts [technically a legume]) will have similar benefits unless the person is allergic! The reduction in cholesterol will be small (under 5%) unless combined with other changes.
I'd like to lose bout a stone. Don't matter how much I try the small handful of nuts alway becomes the whole bag full, to combat that I "try" to buy smaller bags!!
Hi, A year ago I lost 2stone in a matter of 3 months on a exercise and low carb regime.Which I have maintained, and only breach when I have an all inclusive holiday, but it soon reverts to normal
