Hi, Last November I was told that I needed a replacement mitral valve, it was marked urgent and 4 to 6 months waiting. I have now been told that my operation at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham adult congenital heart unit will not be before October and possibly November/December. I understand that this can't be helped but wondered if there anyone else was also waiting like me.

Waiting for Heart Valve operation
Unfortunately our overloaded cardiolgy services are increasingly subject to delay and cancellations. I was referred for my bypass in August 2017 and only had surgery in June 2018! However, if your condition worsens let them know immediately. Good luck - hope you get an October date!
Yes I am. Think you will find a good few people waiting on here. It's very hard.
Ask around about last minute cancellations - If they know you can be available at a moments notice you might get lucky.
My husband was waiting a while longer than he expected but you can contact the surgeons secretary and say you are willing to come in at short notice if there is a cancellation. There was a cancellation and he was admitted immediately and had his mitral valve repair carried out the day after admission.
Hope everything goes well for you.
Hi Tombob
I had a replacement 3 years ago I waited the best part of 14 months for my op this did me no favours it seemed to me unless you are at deaths door you have to wait. But do tell them if you are feeling unwell don't leave it good luck with your operation hope all goes well
Thank you, I keep in touch with the hospital waiting list secretary and keep being put back. I have now been told it will be the end of November or December so I will have been waiting 12 plus months. I know they are short of surgeons and they have to cover the children's hospital as well. I will just have to.keep waiting.
