CH5 Live Aortic Heart Valve Operation.

I watched the live filming of an aortic valve replacement operation last night. I had the same operation in August at Papworth. I am in awe of the whole team and my surgeon but even more so now. The program was fantastic.

There is already a thread about it here:-

I wonder how many surgeons first experience was dissection in O and A level biology? Imagine it is no longer allowed?

Are you suggesting that anyone who posts here should first search to find if there is already a thread in existence - surely not?

I recorded it and watched it yesterday.

I'm in awe of our amazing NHS staff!, the Surgeon, his assistant, the scrub nurse, the whole team. I didn't realise how many people are needed for the op.

My Mitral valve is deteriorating and will need replacing, this has given me an insight into what will be happening.

I also am looking at a knee replacement too, so recorded last nights program too.

I watched it too. Brilliant programme, some people might not have the stomach for it. Last night it was knee replacemen, I have had both knees replaced, so it was a good watch for me. I don't think many people realise how many staff are needed for these operations and we don't pay, we are lucky in this country to have the NHS.

Hi Rosei

Just a minor correction WE do Pay albeit collectively rather than as individuals. That is not to say I disagree with the system just we do Pay. Free NHS is a Myth.

Sorry, I tend to think it's free because I have been widowed 40 plus years.

Sorry I wasn't being critical just a comment.

Best Regards

I quite agree with you. I had a heart bypass in June and believe the process to get to the heart is an identical one. I wish, in hindsight, that I knew exactly what the process involved, for most people skated over the issues, probably to protect me. I would have definitely asked the surgeon to have a good nights sleep and thank him for the expertise he was about to extent do my poor heart. The teams certainly do not get enough recognition for the life of education they have given - to heal the sick. It was a privilege to be given this insight into the process we have been through

I was amazed at the size of opening that he made. My scar measures seven centimeters. Maybe my surgeon has small hands. 🤔
