Surgery did not go ahead

An urgent case came in overnight, and my surgeon was on call and was in the theatre until 2.30 a.m., I should have been first on the list Today. I hope it won't be too long before I get another date. Of course I understand the reasons why, but it was not easy after a night of restlessness - very stressful.

Hi SerenK, so sorry it didn’t go ahead. I know exactly how you feel, I had mine cancelled three times before it went ahead, the third time I managed to get as far as spending the night in hospital! It is very stressful, especially as my husband and I both work full time so had to keep changing plans with our respective employers, thankfully they were both great. The way I coped was by being thankful that I wasn’t the person I was ‘bumped’ for, as they were all emergencies and needed the surgery more than me.

Hope you don’t have to wait too long, I was relisted two weeks later after the first two cancellations and five days after the third. Keep us posted.

Yes it is stressful, especially when you sped the night before in gathering your strength for what the morning brings. Hope the next one goes ahead, at least I know the procedure now.

Oh no! So sorry to hear that after going through all the build-up. So frustrating, if understandable in the circumstances. Hope you're ok. Nic x

So sorry to hear this. Although we can all understand emergencies it is awful the upset and anxiety cancelling ops cost. I work with a little girl with Downs Syndrome who’s open heart surgery has just been cancelled. Sooo many plans had been put in place for tge whole family and so much work done to prepare her it was heart breaking. Here’s hoping you don’t have long to wait and the op goes really well for you x

Nightmare but totally unavoidable. Happened to myself on the day and only had to wait another 2 weeks till it went ahead so fingers crossed you get another date ASAP. 🤞
