Sorry to write a trivial post but its all part of my two and a half year rehab on the road to getting back to nearly the old me, it has been a hard s**t journey. My youngest Son and his girlfriend have just had their teeth whitened and look lovely. Does anyone know if l can have this done with a standard pacemaker and mechanical AVR ? . Thanks, Sue.

Hey. I know you can have it done with an ICD, which includes a pacemaker. Embarrassingly I had to get my consultant to write a letter (actually requested by beatician for laser hair removal). So I asked that he do an all in one letter covering laser tooth whitening, other cosmetic dental procedures, laser hair removal, etc - to avoid going back to him again on such matters.

I finally got my letter, but now I'm pregnant so can't have the treatments anyway until after breastfeeding. Consultant' s secretary seemed understanding with me asking. As you say it's all about trying to just live your life as however you'd choose to if you didn't have a dodgy heart xx

The only medical advice from the consultant is that any laser devices should not be placed over the site of my ICD - which is easy to avoid with dental procedures 😁

I can empathise with not wanting to trouble your consultant if poss. It felt like I was 'I know you're really busy performing open heart surgery, but could you write this letter about my bikini line treatment' 😂 🤣. In the end it was the only option though but some places might accept an email from your pacing clinic or cardiac nurse? X
