Increase in Heart rate

Hi All

Haven’t posted for a while but read lots of relevant posts

Just wanted to know had my op 14 months ago and went back for my annual check where everything went well and my Cardiologist gave me a good report and don’t have to go back for two years .He also told me I could stop my Bisoprol 2.5 mg so I weaned my self for a month as I didn’t think it was a good idea just to stop but since then I’ve noticed my resting heart rate has increased by about 10 and sometimes at night it’s even higher

Do you think it will settle or should I go to Drs to get it checked out as I’m alittle worried it’s getting to high

It’s a shame your cardiologist didn’t give you some idea what to expect. Do you remember what your typical heart rate was before you started on your bisoprolol?

Why not contact the BHF nurses tomorrow and see what they suggest?

Thanks for your reply no I don’t know what my heart rate before my AVR op was but I know my BP was normal and when I was on Bisoprol it was resting around the 57 /60 now it’s 67 ish mark and feels sometimes like it’s racing but I just wondered after your body has got used to being without it will it settle so I will get in touch a BHF Nurse or my Dr to find out what they suggest

You don’t say what you bp is now, but assuming it’s nice and low, a change of 10 bpm should be nothing to get too concerned about. I’m a little surprised you were not given advice on coming off the beta blockers.

Yes thanks for your reply too and yes I was a little surprised that he didn’t suggest weaning myself off it so I thought I would take the initiative and that’s been fine but since finishing all together it has crept up from 57/59 -60 up to 64-67 and just wondered whether that was normal after coming off a beta blocker but I will seek professional help x

Bisoprolol lowers the heart rate so it’s not surprising that it has increased now you’ve come off it. If it was me I wouldn’t be worried by such a small change. If you’re anxious about it this could be affecting the numbers too. The BHF nurses are good at offering help and advice.

Took me six months of very gentle weaning using jeweller scales to get off without issues. Every other time I tried I failed through it affecting heart rate, breathing and high anxiety. If it seems too much for you maybe go back to the gp and tell him you'll try 1.25 for a while then wean down extremely slowly. Good luck
