Cardiologists are a funny thing as well, mine said Bisop wouldn't help ectopics and possibly make them worse, difficult to know what's right or wrong. Can't imagine how you are managing on 10mg 😳
Agree Heart Failure Cardiologist said he thought 10mg was over beta blocked go down to 7.5 mg, Intervention Cardiologist said stay on 10mg. My GP wrote to them both and said they need to agree hence Perfusion MRI on 11th June, 3rd time round for one of these !! sometimes I feel I could work in Cardiology lol
I totally agree with you. When it comes to our health and our dependence on medications to manage our recovery I think we should absolutely seek out a second even third opinion from all the various doctors involved in our care.
I,m 72 and fairly active, I feel tired constantly. It’s like an exhaustion in the body, it could be due to our problems,I felt tired before I was diagnosed for years even when I worked. I have mitral valve prolapse,Svt and ectopics, the ectopics since I was 28.
I am 84 so naturally thought it was my age, I don't have a nap during the day, afternoons are spent gardening in the summer months, in winter I watch a film in the afternoon. I mustn't grumble, my children who are on the verge of retiring, are pleased I am still alive.
We are lucky to be active,I worked with the elderly for years and saw them with multiple health problems even in wheelchairs with arthritis. I do gardening outside my flat and have lots of potted shrubs.
Aww Urssy. That's all I can say is that you're certainly not on your own. I feel absolutely exhausted today. Haven't got the energy for anything. I slept from about 11pm till 10am this morning. Now just feel I could go back to bed and sleep all day!! I'm on a lot of Tablets, including Bisoprolol, feel sure they must have got something to do with it!!
I'm not too sure Urssy, could be a number of things I suppose. Please don't take my word for it though as I'm certainly no Expert!! I think Stress plays a big part in it as well. If I get Stressed I feel worn out. Could be Anaemia. It's worth checking with your Doctor though. It certainly won't hurt will it? I'm going to anyway, have to go to the Doctors this week for a Tablet Review so I'm definitely going to mention it to him. See what he comes up with. Let us know how you get on if you do go. He may do Blood Tests on you. PS: I went back to bed this afternoon. Started to do some Ironing, did 3 things and put it away lol. Couldn't do it. It can wait, certainly not going to fret about it!! Take Care 😊
I've been on exactly the same medication as you, plus Ramipril, since a bypass operation last October.
For the first few months I was constantly tired, and even though I was sleeping well it never quite seemed enough.
For the past couple of months however I seem to have got back to my pre-op energy levels. It's either down to just becoming used to the medication or, more likely, it's because I've started at a gym. I'm now completing the 150 minutes of aerobic exercise each week that the NHS and BHF recommends, plus I add on top both interval training and weights.
Interestingly the normal stuff like dog walking and gardening, which I started doing within a couple of weeks of being discharged, wasn't enough to stop the fatigue. It needed quite serious, regular exercise to cut through the medication. That or it was just a case of acclimatising to the drugs over about six months, who knows which?
And another one😴 I'm on 7.5 bisoprolol. I split it 5 a.m. and 2.5 p.m. but I struggle to stay awake. I've tried taking it earlier in the morning about 8 a.m. and it seems to wear off a bit by the time I've had lunch but my morning is totally non productive. But I had tachycardia so I'm scared to have the racing heart again. It's a year since I was in hospital so let's hope it's reviewed shortly. I am a retired teacher so I know what it must feel like.
Short answer is yes, but I think a lot depends on why your on Bisoprolol is it for Heart Failure ?? or after an MI or Stents any of these could be causing you to be tired !! I don't think that Statins cause tiredness, but open to being wrong ! ( Primary or Older ) ?
Strangely enough, I am on the same meds and found I was extremely tired and tended to just nod off. Never when I went to bed though. Anyway I had tests done and found my B12 was abnormal which does affect energy levels plus a whole host of other things. Now on B12 injections every two months. I go get another anytime I am feeling low and nodding off at random times. May be worth a check.
Tired of the weather! I'm on Bisoprolol 2.5mg and it's giving me freezing cold hands and feet, especially if I go outside and the wind is going - been windy here for ages. I've been stuck in the house today again, sun has finally come out at 5, but wind guesting at 34 MPH, so still can't go and sit outside with a coffee or do a bit in the garden Strangely Bisoprolol doesn't make me tired, which seems to be the effect it has on most people commenting here
Bisoprolol certainly has a reputation. Also, it affects people differently. I was titrated up to 10mg 18 months ago but my HR dropped a bit too low so my dose was decreased to 7.5mg and I’ve remained on that since. I’m fortunate in that it doesn’t seem to affect my energy level at all. (If it does, I’ll be like Billy Whiz when I come off it 🤣).
I am on bisoprolol 1.25 since 1st May. I am also on Perindopril 4mg and atorvastatin 40mg. I am so tired. Struggle to leave the bed before 11am. I was a teacher for 20 years til I was fortunate enough to be able to leave. I don't make plans before lunchtime. Couldn't imagine gathering the energy and adrenaline to teach again.
Oh I'm the opposite. Probably why I couldn't hack teaching.
I particularly like the Plasticine straight from the packet. Joking apart, I feel exactly the same but the biggest difference is that I cannot sleep for more than 2 or 3 hours. I see my doctor tomorrow for a meds review and have the following questions for them: -
Does Bisoprolol cause extreme tiredness?
Is Sertraline a good anti depressant in place of Fluoxetine?
I take Tramadol – does Fluoxetine have issues with this drug?
I am taking blood thinners - does Fluoxetine have issues with this drug?
I feel your pain - tutor group and a L6th double period before break - before joining this group I'd have fuelled up on coffee! I find my tiredness increases the less aerobic exercise I do, half term sort of killed my routine. Sounds counterintuitive I know!
The other area worth checking out is your thyroid, notorious for causing tiredness and lethargy. I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid about 18 years ago and with PAF 5 years ago, I'm on a daily dose of thyroxine and 1.25mg Bisoprolol plus 5mg Warfarin daily and even yet, there are some days I can hardly move...of course being an advanced age it could just be old age! But if I were you Urssy, I'd definitely ask for a thyroid check. Good luck. x
have a look at the American Heart Foundation 3 mile walk programme. It is true that meds can have this effect but by being active you may feel a lot better. If you do give it a go you can just do 1 mile to start with and build up. If you are already active then this advice is just junk- be lucky, Ron
Could it be related to the warmer weather we have had? I struggled with warm/hot weather before my bypass last year but (touch wood) I have been OK this. Saturday was quite hot and I think I overdid it a bit (ongoing issues with house). Yesterday I slept for two hours longer than usual but still felt tired and a bit headachey. After lunch I decided to go for a walk but as it felt airless jumped on a bus to somewhere more open. When I got off the bus (why was the heating on?) it felt 10 degrees cooler. Ten minutes later the heavens opened up for around 20 minutes. The air has felt fresher since and I have felt re-energised.
I get very tired and wondering why I’m on medication and wondering if that’s causing it.
I know how you feel
Over on the AFA (Atrial Fibrillation) section of Health Unlocked there are regular discussions about Bisoprolol & how many people don’t feel able to function normally on it - it floored me, but then I don’t need a beta blocker, just a rhythm controller. Could you ask for an alternative beta blocker, I gather some others don’t give the tiredness effect.
Saw my GP last week and although he reduced 2 of my meds he wouldn't reduce my 5mg Bisoprolol even though he admits it's probably causing my exhaustion. I do have an underactive thyroid as well but that is supposed to be under control. I go to cardiac rehab 3 times a week and went on 5k Park run for the first time last Saturday but only did 2k, it was so hot. I must admit that exercise finishes me off for the day. I sometimes wonder what would happen if I just stopped all meds. I wouldn't do it but really wonder if I would be any worse!
I think some of the heart conditions cause fatigue mine certainly does. Sometimes I am better to battle though it takes a while to get used to managing it. You are not alone with this. It might be worth checking ng the meds I had loads of issues with the the statins you are on and had it changed. Hope you feel better soon.
I feel the same and on the same statin at 40mg. Luckily I’m retired and I admire your ability to keep going at work. I know it sounds counterintuitive but running for 15-20 mins might help.
