Hi all
Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on hiring a car in Spain if you have a ICD , or if anyone has done this or experienced any problems , I’m thinking that if you have a licence from DVLA there shouldn’t be a problem
Hi all

Good question. I'm having an ICD fitted in August.
As I understand it, you can't drive for the month after the ICD has been fitted as a precaution, if it has been fitted after you've had a cardiac arrest it's 6 months. And if it delivers a shock at some point in the future you can't drive for 6 months
I assume that if the above doesn't apply, and you have your license then the question shouldn't arise when you hire a car
Spanish don’t ask any questions, bless them. If you have a clean UK licence and no bars on it there will be no problems.
If you are really worried you could ring a car rental company in the U.K. and ask them.
I have to renew my licence every few years because I am an insulin dependent diabetic. Things are easier on the hiring front than they were years ago. Personally I would arrange car hire from this end rather than risk an issue at the other end or finding they put on a ludicrous excess!
