I have over the last few month gone from having normal blood pressure to high 174/111, my doctors have put me on blood pressure tablets, with no explanation as to why all of a sudden my BP is high,my Daughter is a nurse and said I should have been sent for a ecg,I was just put on ramipril and now after just 1 week I feel worse than I ever did, don’t know if this is because of the tablets.

High Bp
An ECG will not necessarily tell you why your BP is high - it just tells the cardiologists if there is anything untoward with the electrical activity in your heart (and you can have high BP with a normal ECG). When your GP prescribed the ramipril he/she should have explained or at least postulated as to why your BP may have jumped - there are many reasons why that may have happened.
If you continue to feel unwell with the medication go and see your GP again - there are other drugs that you could take that will lower your BP - and when you get there, ask the question 'why'. You might also ask if they intend sending you to see anyone (specialist).
My GP put me on Ramipril due to my BP rising slowly over a couple of years and family history. For the first few months I felt groggy, bit dizzy and developed an irritating cough. I persevered and at around 4 months when I was just thinking of asking to change my medication I started to feel okay and the cough stopped. I think maybe give it a few weeks longer and then if you are not happy go see your GP as there are alternatives.
Hope this helps!
Hello Mtred I would ask to be referred to a blood pressure clinic they will do extensive tests to get to the bottom of it. Are you going through a lot of stress? This can have an effect over time. Unfortunately the tablets make alot of people feel awful which is hard because the BP doesn't. You could try the usual culprits, caffeine, smoking, sugar, stress. And try some breathing exercises and meditation. Lots of walking. Good luck ☺️
