Does a pacemaker check show everything?

Hi everyone, l havn't posted for a while but now 26 months since my second AVR l am a little worried. Predominately the retirement of my Hero Consultant heart surgeon who saved my life twice and the fact l have been discharged from outpatients after a good echo. Now the only appointment l have is a once a year pacemaker check which l am worried will not show anything wrong with my heart. lt sounds stupid and l should be grateful that l am so well which l am!!! with no meds except warfarin and l am physically and mentally in a good place. The fact that my Consultant is not there if l needed him makes me a bit panicked, l was very close to him during my 3 months in hospital and now l feel lost, (he came from home on New Years day 2017 to save me with a AVR and then again 5 weeks later with a 11 hour op redo AVR rebuilding my broken heart) Sorry to be a bit trivial when many of you are dealing with so much anguish and worry but just hoped for answers. Take care, Sue.

Your nervousness is only natural and due rather from anxiety of loosing your main cardiac supporter, your hero consultant than your current actual health I think. It's only natural, we become dependent on those who are kind supportive and have the expertise to save and change our lives when at our lowest ebb and in fear. Little wonder you feel unnerved.

I know exactly how you feel and it is very unnerving. Have a word with people in charge of maintaining your pacemaker and if needed seek some emotional support so this concern doesn't continue and affect your emotional health long term.

I lost a main medical supporter some years ago and it really knocked me back especially when my health was on a downturn. I am grateful for all they did for me and always will be, I will never forget them but have found there are other good medics out there it's a matter of finding one and you will without taking anything from the person who saved you. Best wishes.

Hi Sue, I had my second AVR about 18 months ago, but I still have yearly check ups, involving an echocardiogram and seeing the cardiologist. I also have yearly appointments at the pacemaker clinic. Perhaps it’s another of those postcode lottery anomalies. If you are very concerned try asking your GP and see what they say.

Hi Wendy, thanks for your reply l am going to bring my pacemaker check forward, they are always happy to do that. Also to stop negative thoughts which l am bored of doing, l have today booked a two week holiday with my lovely Husband to my favourite place on earth (l bet you guessed) Lassi resort in Kefalonia. We like going to small traditional apartments that are family run. Take care, Sue.
