My husband has a UTI and he has been advised as well as antibiotics to have cranberry juice. I understand this is not advised for warfarin, is this the same for Clipidogrel? Grapefruit juice is not advised.

It has been proved that Cranberry juice does nothing for uti's and can in fact irritate the bladder even more.

When I had a UTI lemon barley water was recommended. Whether it actually works I cannot really tell. Your husband is probably on strong antibiotics which can damage the good gut bacteria. It's worth boosting this with low fat yogurt and pickled vegetables.

Yes that’s a good point will do

I was told no cranberry juice now I’m on warfarin as it is high in vitamin K, which is the antidote for warfarin. Can have a bit of cranberry sauce with my turkey though 🙂.

Has he tried taking D-Mannose? It’s a type of sugar that has “hooks” that attach to the hooks on e-Coli urine infections and sweeps them out with the wee. It’s widely available, including at Holland & Barrett, and because it’s a sugar doesn’t affect medicines. That said, always check the label/leaflet to be sure. I found it worked well, a friend has used it for her elderly lady dog to great success when repeated antibiotics from the vet haven’t worked and another friend has been able to come off permanent antibiotics for kidney infections by using it for a relatively short time.

Thanks that’s useful to know. Will do some research into that.

I too was recently told by my urology nurse not to drink cranberry as it does not help UTI is full of sugar and irritates the bladder like caffeine etc
