High blood pressure

Many of you lovely people helped me through the worry of hubby having a quad bypass. This was 10 weeks ago. He was doing fine and started cardio rehab two weeks ago (twice a week).

His blood pressure has been textbook until 3 days ago when he felt weird and when I checked it on our monitor, it was very low. The following day it was much higher than the usual 120/74. At the cardio gym this week he was sent home because they checked it twice and got 190/104; 196/111.

I'm booking him an appointment to see our GP tomorrow but wondered whether anyone else has had these glitches?

At the moment he's on a 'water tablet', furosemide, aspirin 75mg and 80mg Atorvastatin.

Thanks so much for feedback xxx

Hi Handel

That sounds strange-definitely worth a trip to the GP with your husband's recorded blood pressures and they may do an ECG. If you have any questions after visiting the GP call our Heart Helpline on 0300 330 3311.

Take care,

Ashleigh

Hello Ashleigh. Thank you so much for replying so quickly.

Just back from the doctors.

Hubby has a blood test on Monday to see what his cholesterol level is (and what his kidneys and liver are doing). The GP thinks he should be on a lower dose statin.

He's also having a telephone call from the nurse at the GP on Tuesday with a view to having a 24hour BP monitor attached just to see what's going on.

The tests with our home BP checker are not bad at all but the reading was very high again at the GP surgery this morning!

This might be just 'white coat syndrome' the doctor said as hubby gets anxious over the slightest thing. He doesn't do change well at all!

As far as the water tablet goes, our GP is surprised he was still on this. The hospital said he should be for a few more weeks. Our doctor says it's ridiculous to be on this for no reason.

I have to say our GP was a little annoyed with the hospital for not getting in touch with him.

Once again, thanks Ashleigh. Your kind help is really appreciated. xxx
