I have high blood pressure, both my parents did and had a mitral repair 5 years ago. Have recovered well. My GP has put me on blood pressure medication and boy, am I having problems with it. Amlodopine made me swell up like a puffa fish, it did reduce my blood pressure, to within acceptable levels (for my GP) but my legs were so swollen, they were painful, the skin on them began to crack, I was struggling to walk any distance, and I struggled at work. So I was swapped over to Ramopril, that has made me breathless and my blood pressure has gone up!! On the plus side I have lovely legs again. Has anyone else had such issues, most of my friends who are on bp meds have no problems. Im fed up thinking Im going to drop down dead before they find a suitable bp medication for me.

Amlodipine is a CCI (Calcium Channel Inhibitor). I had severe oedema with it but not with another CCI, Diltizium, So your GP could try this. My initially added a diuretic but my ankles were still swollen and I was forever going to the loo! An old ACE Inhibitor like Lisinoprol might not give you the breathlessness. A beta blocker could also be suitable. I currently take a low dose of Lisinoprol with a low dose of Bisoporal which seems to do the job. So there's lots of options. Just keep at it. If something isn't suitable you will know in 2 - 4 weeks. The main problem these days seems to be getting to work with one GP which works best for me!
Thanks for the reply, you are right on trying to get to see a GP, mine only works Thursday /Friday and the others in the pricetice wont see me as they didnt prescribe the medcine, how ridiculous is that?
Hello
I am very sensitive to medications and like you everyone else I know all seem fine on them which does not always make you feel any better but we are all different
It took several attempts when I started on BP meds to get the right combination to suite me so keep going back and I know they will get you on the right one's to suite you to can just be a bit frustrating till they do
On a positive I am glad you have nice legs again x
I’m am going through this too I’ve tried about 11 bp meds so far (but I react badly to lots of different medications) and have been put on verapamil two weeks ago after extremely high bp but it’s still not working and I’m feeling dreadful from the tablets again. And meant to start a water pill today then a patch next week. 🤦♀️
