Weather and sensible precautions

Morning all,

As all the lovely papers are forecasting Armageddon and the coming of the ice age, a timely reminder that cold weather isn't the greatest thing in the world for us hearties.

Cold weather and cold wind constricts your blood vessels, reducing blow flow and the amount of oxygen carried around, please wrap up warmly and, where possible, wrap a scarf or something in front of your mouth and nose to warm the air going into your lungs.

Take care

Mark

Thank you skid112, I needed this reminder as I normally just grab a coat and off I go with the dog. Most off the time I'm shivering with the cold. Much appreciate your post x

Thank you skid 112, you always think you can handle the cold, as you never had a problem with it before. Change your way of thinking, better to be over cautious with clothing on freezing days than to be caught out during a lovely walk or out with friends. Its a rubbish feeling and can be very painful if angina rears its ugly head! I am usually dressed like im about to conquer Everest when i walk my dog, but at least im warm. And i lost count of the time ive had to lend scarves gloves etc to friends when they are cold out, this is usually after they,ve all laughed at my dress code 🤣🤣 . So keep warm to keep happy when out. ❄🌬

Hugs x

I went out for my walk yesterday, cold and bright day. When I got home and sat down i became very dizzy ......checked my BP and it was 100/51. My partner arrived and told me I looked as white as a sheet and then went mad when i told her what I'd been wearing when I went for my walk, which was clearly not enough to keep me warm. As she said "You think you can do what you've always done......Well you cant so get used to it!

So the message from skid112 explained the situation very well......Thank you, and in future I will wrap up. So keep warm everyone........it could save your life!

It has gone colder. Wise words from everyone!

I've always gone with layers when walking the dog, so able to remove those when I get warmer. So in this weather its, long sleeved t-shirt, thin fleece, thick fleece, bobble hat, fleece lined walking trousers and gloves. Oh and mac if its raining. My gloves are the first to come off then the hat! Good luck all you hearties in this weather x

I’m glad I’m not the only one going out dog walking as if the temperature was in the minus figures! I wear a long sleeved thermal top, thick jumper, thick tights, and jeans in our centrally heated house. To take the dogs out I add welly socks, wellies, cashmere scarf, woolly hat, leather gloves and a Barbour. If it’s really cold I add a thick fleece under the Barbour. If I’m walking in and out of town I just chuck on the Barbour and leather boots with gloves and a scarf.

I must also confess that it has been known for me to take a hot water bottle out with me😳!! You wouldn’t think I lived in Berkshire would you?
