Can cold weather increase your heart rate?
It was cold, but dry and bright here yesterday so I thought it would be good to get out in the fresh air and get some sunlight so took the dog out for about an hour. There was also a slight breeze which made it seem colder. About -8C, wind chill around -11. However on return I realised it probably hadn't been a good idea. I felt generally weak and blood pressure was up. Waiting to see if I feel up to much today; it's so frustrating when you promise to help someone then have to let them down.Yes it seems we have to be careful in the cold.

Yes, weather has a big effect. We need Goldilocks weather when it is neither too hot nor too cold, not too wet and not too dry.
Low temperatures and this nagging wind will raise your heart rate as will high humidity. You need to keep warm and ideally wear something round your neck that you can pull over your nose to raise the temperature you are breathing the air at.
Probably best not to take vigorous outdoors exercise in very cold weather.
Mine is like that everyday, no matter what the weather!
Hi Yumz, Yes cold weather can affect your heart rate as your heart has to work harder in this weather it's the same with hot weather too. It's one of the reasons you're advised to wear a scarf over you're mouth when you go out into the cold so that you're breathing in warm air which helps stop your heart over working. I would suggest giving your Dr or 111 a call if your HR is still being erratic, especially if you're feeling dizzy, as your resting HR should be between 60 & 100bpm. Good luck I hope you're feeling better soon x
