I had a mechanical valve fitted in July. I was advised to inform the insurance and DVLA. The DVLA after speaking to them on the phone sent me forms to fill in. There was no issue or restrictions but contact them to inform them. Don't take a chance and get caught out.

Hi Gill
I had heart Valve surgery in September 2018 .I had an Aortic Tissue Valve Replacement and spoke to DVLA and they referred me to this page on there website that I’ve copied and pasted below .There were no forms to fill in as you are not required to notify them just don’t drive for 4 weeks then get your doctors permission to restart
Heart valve disease or replacement valve and driving
You can be fined up to £1,000 if you don’t tell DVLA about a medical condition that affects your driving. You may be prosecuted if you’re involved in an accident as a result.
Car or motorcycle licence
You don’t need to tell DVLA. You should stop driving for at least 1 month and only restart driving when your doctor tells you it’s safe.

Hi when I spoke to them they advised me to as I had said I had Congenital heart disease so I filled in the forms as they sent them to me. I think I was making extra sure 😀. It can be confusing especially if a person is recovering from surgery and not quite with it. I think it's only the last few weeks I'm feeling with it again 😉
