I had mild heart attack and 2 stents fitted in nov 2021, I sent off form voch1 to DVLA as I am an hgv driver but have received no correspondence from them since.
I assumed I would need permission from DVLA to drive hgv again but is this the case
I am now fit and well. my question is can I drive an hgv vehicle now? when I go to DVLA website to check my licence status it says I am entitled to drive hgv as well as all other classes I have licence for, would this be the case if my licence had been revoked or surrendered.
UPDATE
I eventually managed to get through to dvla by phone and they told me that indeed my licence including hgv entitlement is all valid and that I can drive and could have driven hgv after the initial 6 weeks after HA and stent insertion as my license hadn’t been revoked or suspended despite me filling in form voch1 so I have basically self imposed not driving hgv since Jan 22. It seems the rules are different in all cases and don’t assume as I did that you lose your hgv entitlement automatically after HA. As said previously I never received any correspondence from dvla to the contrary.

Hi there. When my husband was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation he surrendered his HGV licence. I think you need confirmation from your doctor that you are fit to drive.
On the DVLA website there is a separate section for you to click on to reapply to get your licence back, for people who originally surrendered it. Apologies I cannot seem to give you the link.
Hope that helps.
If you can get through talk to the DVLA who will advise what you need to do, which may include getting your GP to confirm to them that you are now fully fit to drive again.
Hi MarkDVLA website states you must undergo a stress test after stents before you can drive HGV again. It states 6-8 weeks but you need to get them to send you paperwork for your cardiologist to complete. and arrange test.
My husband had HA/stent on 21/1/22 and took 15 weeks to get it all sorted but hes back HGV driving
Good Luck at trying to get through to DVLA on phone! Try emailing or online chat service
Hi Stoker-1, I’m on this site because of my medical problems but my husband who’s a HGV driver has recently renewed his liscence- the routine renewal for HGV. Just to prepare you communication with the DVLA is dire. There taking a lot longer to sort anything out. They’ve sent him a letter to carry saying they’ve got his liscence as it’s taking months longer than normal just for a routine renewal. Start the process ASAP but be prepared for a wait. Good luck.
I had similar HA but 7 stents & permanent damage. Although I have recovered well I had to do the treadmill test & an echo to establish my EF (ejection fraction). The cardiologist has to fill the form in, send it to dvla & wait for their medics to look at the results & say yes/no. I got a yes but it took 3 months, albeit this was 2 years ago. Hope you get it back sooner rather than later
